Quick Links
Prior to the first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade, there were only three legendaries in the game. The first was Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, the second was Sulfaras, Hand of Ragnaros, and the third was the long-since removed Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. Aside from Sulfaras, acquiring a legendary was a combination of quests and RNG-based drops.
With The Burning Crusade, new legendaries like the Warglaives of Azzinoth switched to random drops only. If you want to acquire Illidan’s notorious weapon, here is how you can obtain it.

How to Get the Warglaives of Azzinoth in World of Warcraft
The Warglaives of Azzinoth are two random drops from Illidan Stormrage, the last boss of the Black Temple in Outland. The Black Temple is located in Shadowmoon Valley on the eastern edge of the map. The main entrance is blocked, but you can enter the raid via the hole in the wall on the right.
As long as you are at least Level 45+, you will have little to no trouble soloing the Black Temple. Make sure your character is not using Chromie Time, as you will be unable to enter the raid. There are no skips right to Illidan, so you will need to kill every boss and fight your way to the very top. After you beat the Illidari Council, speak to Akama and he will open the door that leads to Illidan.
Like the rest of the bosses in the Black Temple, Illidan will be a trivial encounter if you are Level 45 or higher. Both Warglaives have a four to five percent chance to drop each time you kill Illidan, so it may take awhile to get both Warglaives.
How to Transmog the Warglaives of Azzinoth
While transmog has been part of the game since Patch 4.3, legendaries could not be used for transmog until during the Shadowlands expansion. Despite this, the Warglaives of Azzinoth have three restrictions. The first is that only Demon Hunters can transmog the Warglaives of Azzinoth. The second is that you must have obtained both Warglaives. Once you’ve obtained both Warglaives, you will need to kill Illidan again in a Timewalking version of the raid.
The Timewalking version of the Black Temple is only available during the weeks where Burning Crusade Timewalking is active. There is no matchmaking or LFR versions of the Black Temple, so you will need to find a group. When you beat Illidan, you will unlock the Warglaives of Azzinoth as an option for transmog for your Demon Hunter.
