Helldivers 2 is Biding Its Time Longer Than It Needs to at This Point

The constantly evolving story of Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest reasons why people continue to play and enjoy it. But as much as the game has built its world and narrative, it has yet to deliver on something it has been teasing for quite some time. Events such as the destruction of Meridia and perhaps even the Truth Enforcers Warbond looked to be the set-up for the important piece of content, but it seems not to be the case. Arrowhead Game Studios may have taken too much time on its release, casting doubt on its eventual payoff.

As players continue to complete major orders in Helldivers 2, one of the biggest rewards they’re offered, aside from medals and equipment, is the continuation of the narrative. While the story involves the ever-evolving fight against the Terminids and Automatons, leaks have long suggested that the Illuminate faction from the previous game is on the way. Helldivers 2 has teased the introduction of the highly advanced enemy for quite some time, but they have yet to show themselves. This makes one wonder about the impact of the faction’s arrival, as it may already be too late to make a splash.

A recent Helldivers 2 update added a new Flak ammo type to the game, and hopefully, it’s just the tip of the iceberg for the new mechanic.

Why Helldivers 2 Shouldn’t Keep Holding Off the Introduction of the Illuminate

If the Illuminate enemy faction is indeed making its way into Helldivers 2, then Arrowhead Game Studios may have taken too long to release it. Players should not be kept from such a big piece of content any longer, as there are consequences of having them wait so long for it.

  • Should the Illuminate not live up to the expectations of the players, then it will make them wonder why it took so long for release, which could result in Arrowhead Game Studios losing some goodwill
  • The window of when people are still hyped for the faction’s arrival is slowly closing or may even already be closed, which means if the Illuminate content doesn’t impress, it could end up as something players will be disappointed with instead of a source of excitement
  • Some players may have already given up on the Illuminate or no longer care about their inclusion, making the content something of a wasted opportunity

Helldivers 2 needs to spill the beans on the Illuminate as soon as possible, as implementing the faction can still attract attention to the game. Even now, there is still some anticipation for its arrival, which means Arrowhead Game Studios has to capitalize on releasing or even announcing it before it’s too late.

What the Illuminate Can Bring to Make Up for the Long Wait Time

Adding the Illuminate to Helldivers 2 can expand the game in many ways, making it a highly beneficial inclusion despite the long wait. If Arrowhead Game Studios wants to ensure that it’s worth the wait, then it can do so by having the faction’s release bring things like:

  • More weapons and armor, especially ones that make use of the new technology that the Illuminate may have developed during their absence
  • An expansion of the galactic map, as the Illuminate may have taken over other planets that Super Earth would like to claim for the intent of galactic freedom
  • Bringing back some of the classic Illuminate troops while adding new ones to the mix, giving more variety to what players could potentially face

The Illuminate faction has to stick the landing in a big way, especially since the wait for their potential arrival has been so long. Arrowhead Game Studios needs to add the Illuminate sooner rather than later, because if the developer keeps delaying the faction’s return, it may not have the lasting game-changing impact it was expected to.
