Every MTG Marvel Secret Lair Superdrop, Ranked By How Expensive They Are

While Magic: The Gathering’s Marvel Secret Lair Superdrop was surely controversial (thanks to massive queue times and near-immediate sell-outs), fans who were able to snag one (or all) of the drops are likely thrilled to have a piece of pop culture that combines two of their favorite franchises.

Surely, these drops will continue to accrue value for collectors, seeing as it marks the first pairing between MTG and Marvel, so let’s take a look at how each of the ten drops (five foil, five non-foil) rank value-wise in order to see if the premium you paid was worth it.

Secret Drop X Marvel’s Black Panther

Total Market Price: $94.71

The only Marvel Secret Lair Drop that has a total price below triple digits is Black Panther’s. As expected, the most valuable card in this drop is the “face” card: Black Panther, Wakandan King ($37.77), which features an interesting and thematic landfall ability.

The second-priciest card here is the beloved mass protection spell Heroic Intervention, which sits at a median value above $20. Beyond that, this drop simply doesn’t have the best cards in it, though a median value just below $100 is still a near-60% return on investment on the drop’s $39.99 price point.

Secret Drop X Marvel’s Black Panther (Rainbow Foil)

Total Market Price: $121.37

The Rainbow Foil edition of Black Panther’s drop represents a significant step-up in terms of price from the non-foil version, but it still ranks as the ninth-most valuable drop out of 10.

Even more notable is the fact that the Black Panther drop is only one of two Marvel drops to feature six cards instead of five (the other being Iron Man’s). While the legendary creature and Heroic Intervention once again do the heavy lifting, uninspiring selections such as Secure the Wastes and Karn’s Bastion really bring this drop’s value down. Still, just over $120 is not bad for six small pieces of cardboard.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Captain America

Total Market Price: $123.13

The non-foil version of “The First Avenger’s” drop showcases a few notable cards – the legendary creature Captain America, First Avenger being the most valuable by far with a price point of $57.25.

Sadly, that card represents nearly 50% of this drop’s total value, as the remaining four cards add up to only be worth $65.88, but with cards featuring both Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson (Sigarda’s Aid) and a mythic rare version of Cap’s shield (Shield of War and Peace), there’s still a lot to like here.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Storm

Total Market Price: $137.78

The most valuable card out of all the cards featured herein are both versions of Storm’s legendary creature: Storm, Force of Nature. The non-foil version of that soon-to-be Commander favorite will set you back a staggering $70.19 – and with good reason.

Being able to bestow the storm keyword on the next instant or sorcery spell you play after combat (as long as Storm damages your foe) is a truly astounding effect, so it’s no wonder that Storm’s “face” card will cost a princely sum. Beyond that, Commander stalwart Jeska’s Will (aka Storm’s Will) provides an over-$25 price point, and the rarely reprinted Ice Storm is also worth over $15, with those cards representing two of the best reprints in the Marvel Superdrop.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Captain America (Rainbow Foil)

Total Market Price: $152.09

Unsurprisingly, four of the top six (and three of the top five) drops found here are of the Rainbow Foil variety, and it’s easy to see why. While true connoisseurs normally know that the foil versions of Secret Lair Drops sometimes don’t retain their value like the non-foils, that might not be the case for something as mainstream and popular as a Marvel MTG product.

As such, the foil versions of these drops were the ones that sold out almost immediately, and, as such, they have a higher overall value than their non-foil counterparts. The Captain America drop, for example, is worth almost $30 more in its foil edition as opposed to non-foil – and the foil version of Captain America, First Avenger is worth over $10 more than its non-foil version.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Iron Man

Total Market Price: $156.71

The other drop on this list that delivered six cards instead of five, Iron Man manages to do more with those six cards than the Black Panther drop was able to.

Headlined by the impressively valuable triumvirate of Iron Man, Titan of Innovation (the drop’s “face” card), beloved Commander staple Commander’s Plate and the omnipresent Sol Ring, this non-foil drop delivers some impressive goodies for both MTG and Marvel fans alike.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Wolverine

Total Market Price: $165.42

Perhaps the most popular character featured in this drop is Wolverine, as the X-Men – and Wolverine in particular – have long been fan favorites thanks to that character’s brusque personality as well as the legendary on-screen performances of Hugh Jackman, which have brought the razor-clawed hero to life.

While Wolverine’s non-foil MTG Secret Lair drop is less valuable than the foil version, the difference is not as stark (ahem, not Tony) as it is for other drops. In fact, cards such as Rite of Passage and Rhythm of the Wild are, surprisingly, worth more as non-foils than they are as foils.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Storm (Rainbow Foil)

Total Market Price: $179.66

The most valuable card across all ten of these drops is Storm, Force of Nature in its rainbow foil edition, which befits the best legendary creature across this entire Superdrop. That card will set you back a hefty $81.79 on the secondary market currently.

Beyond that, value abounds in this drop, with Storm’s Will following up this drop’s “face” card with a robust $42.12 price point and even Ice Storm and Lightning Bolt combining for a hearty $38.00 price tag in their foil forms.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Wolverine (Rainbow Foil)

Total Market Price: $181.92

The third-most valuable legendary creature across all of these drops is Wolvie himself, in his rainbow foil form. For this drop, that “face” card represents over a third of the value found here, but there are other goodies beyond that.

The foil version of Adamantium Bonding Tank (a re-skinned The Ozolith) will set you back over $45, and a foil reprint of the beloved green combat trick Berserk (featuring some terrific artwork) costs an impressive $34.50. Not bad, bub.

Secret Lair X Marvel’s Iron Man (Rainbow Foil)

Total Market Price: $211.70

The biggest jump in terms of value from non-foil to foil versions of these drops come courtesy of Mr. Tony Stark, whose foil Secret Lair Drop is worth almost $55 more than its non-foil variant. Why the huge increase?

It’s likely due to the scarcity of foil versions of cards such as Commander’s Plate, combined with the unique artwork found on this version of the ubiquitous Sol Ring, which features the iconic Arc Reactor that powers Iron Man’s suit. Of course, Iron Man himself, the legendary creature Iron Man, Titan of Innovation, is likely to be a major Commander all-star, so that is the most valuable card here.
