Halfway through what might be the Switch’s final year before its successor is released – wild that we still don’t know that for certain yet – Nintendo popped in for a Direct. Switch owners weren’t expecting much considering how late we are in the console’s life cycle, but Nintendo overdelivered, revealing the second half of its console’s 2024 would be jam-packed. Among the reveals were The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.

Wake me up when it’s November.

So much has happened between that Direct and now, you might have forgotten the stunning-looking Dragon Quest remake is still to come, especially since it will be the game that brings the curtain down on what has been a surprisingly big year for the Switch. It won’t be a Switch exclusive though, of course, and the game will also launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However you plan to play, it’s not too late to place a pre-order before the remake’s arrival on November 14, 2024.

Even if you stick with the standard edition of the Dragon Quest remake, provided you order the game before release day, you’re going to get a lot of extra stuff thrown in for no additional cost. No physical goodies, but a lot of in-game items to help you on your quest. A pair of Elevating Shoes and a whole bunch of seeds to elevate your strengths and abilities right from the off.

If this is the remake you’ve been waiting years for and you want the physical stuff that comes with it, there’s a collector’s edition. It comes with a copy of the game too which might seem like an obvious thing to note, but it’s not always the case, especially when it comes to Square Enix. The studio received some backlash earlier this year for selling a collector’s edition of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure that didn’t include the game. No such problem with Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, and the CE still includes all of the same pre-order bonuses as the standard edition.

The Future Of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Remakes

After years of waiting for Square to confirm when we’d be getting a remake of one of the first Dragon Quest games, the studio effectively announced three all at the same time. While Dragon Quest 3 was the big reveal, it was also confirmed that the first two games will be getting the HD-2D remake treatment as well. Since Dragon Quest 3 takes place first on the series timeline, Square opted to release that one first.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 14, 2024, and it will seemingly kick off a revival era for the first games in the series so that a whole new generation can enjoy them.
