Warzone Season 1 Will Feature a Downgraded Battle Royale Map

Key Takeaways

  • Call of Duty: Warzone will feature a downgraded version of Urzikstan in Season 1 on November 14.
  • Urzikstan will be reverted to the version seen in the earlier season of Modern Warfare 3, with no Atlas Superstore, inaccessible bunkers, and an in-tact Popov Power plant.
  • Activision says Urzikstan’s downgrade is due to the integration of various Black Ops 6 features, such as omnimovement.

Call of Duty: Warzone publisher Activision has announced that the popular Battle Royale title will feature a downgraded version of Urzikstan with the release of Season 1 on November 14. While fans were already disappointed that there would be no new large map for Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1, the studio has even more bad news for the community as Urzikstan will be reverted to its original form, as seen in the early days of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

With less than one week to go until its release, Activision recently revealed the full roadmap for Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 1. From a new Resurgence map to a plethora of new multiplayer maps, weapons, modes, and more, there’s plenty to look forward to as Treyarch gears up to integrate its latest shooter with the popular free-to-play Battle Royale, Warzone. Not only will players get to take all of their leveled-up weapons and operators into Warzone, but they’ll also be able to check out some pretty major gameplay updates, including a new inventory system, updated interface, and, of course, the integration of omnimovement.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Urzikstan Map Will Be Downgraded for Season 1

While there’s plenty of new content coming to Warzone on November 14 with Season 1, fans have been left disappointed after Activision revealed that Urzikstan would be getting a downgrade. In a new blog post on the Call of Duty website, the studio said that the large-scale Battle Royale map featured in Season 1 is the one fans remember from the earlier seasons of Modern Warfare 3. This means Popov Power planet will still be intact, no bunkers will be accessible, and the much-loved Atlas Superstore will be completely missing.

With no new large-scale map set to release until the return of Verdansk in 2025, this news is going to be massively disappointing for players. However, Activision says there’s a good reason for it. According to the publisher, Urzikstan’s sudden downgrade is due to the integration of Black Ops 6‘s new omnidirectional movement system. While the details were vague, Activision said development work to integrate omnimovement and other Black Ops 6 innovations was “highly involved.”

It’s currently unclear how long fans will be playing on this older version of Urzikstan, but the good news is there are only a few months left to go until the return of fan-favorite Warzone map Verdansk. As revealed during Call of Duty: Next back in August, the very first Warzone map will be returning to the game in Spring 2025.
