In a recent financial report, Bandai Namco shared some early sales figures for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and noted that its performance has been “outstanding” so far.
Although there are always going to be people who argue that One Piece is bigger (it probably is, let’s be completely real), Dragon Ball is one of the biggest media franchises of all time and is almost always bound to do well no matter what it puts out. It probably comes as no surprise, then, that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has been a big hit since its launch last month.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Story Mode Almost Made Me Go Super Saiyan
Even if you’ve played the original Budokai Tenkaichi games, you aren’t prepared for how tough Sparking Zero’s story mode is.
As we’ve previously reported, Sparking Zero broke records before it even properly launched, with over 91,005 players on Steam during its early access release. That number (which only represents PC) went even higher once it officially released for everyone, suggesting that it was selling pretty dang well.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Sales Have Been “Outstanding”
Just a few days into Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s launch, Bandai Namco confirmed that it had sold three million copies in 24 hours, which was a very strong start. As pointed out by GamesRadar+, Bandai has since commented on the game’s performance during its most recent financial report, and it seems to be very happy with the results so far.
According to the presentation, some of Bandai Namco’s overseas-developed titles had a rough start (which could be referring to Unknown 9: Awakening), but Sparking Zero saw “outstanding sales”. Bandai notes that this is in part due to collaborative projects with Dragon Ball Daima, and says that it expects repeat sales to be “pre-pandemic” level.
Sparking Zero wasn’t just mentioned in the English financial report, as the Japanese version (as translated by Google) also touches on its sales figures. According to that, 90 percent of the game’s sales come from players in Europe and North America, which is a bit of a surprise considering how big Dragon Ball is in Japan.
Although Sparking Zero has clearly performed well commercially and critically, it’s worth noting that it has lost 90 percent of its playerbase since launch, which is mostly to be expected considering the record that it set.
We don’t get an updated sales figure from the presentation, but it’s still very clear that Sparking Zero is performing beyond Bandai Namco’s expectations, something that might even go further as we get the Daima and Super: Super Hero DLC early next year.
