The PlayStation 5 Pro was released yesterday, ushering in a new age of processing power for the console. In some cases, observers have been sceptical of the upgrades, saying they can’t really tell the difference between the Pro and base PlayStation 5 with certain games. As our own Jade King put it, “If you put a controller into the hands of an average Joe and stuck on a game of Fortnite, I doubt they’d notice the fact they were playing on an upgraded console at all.”
However, a developer that’s put extensive time into upgrading its game for the PS5 Pro is Hello Games. Sean Murray outlined the PS5 Pro features of No Man’s Sky, which includes 30 frames-per-second at 8k resolution, ultra quality reflections and improved lighting.
No Man’s Sky Looks Gorgeous On PS5 Pro
Hello Games is a smaller studio than a lot of the triple-A studios that committed to upgrading their games for the PS5 Pro, making these technical feats even more impressive. No Man’s Sky’s engine programmer Martin Griffiths spoke about this in a social media post, calling it a “tough gig.”
“I spent around 4–5 months of my time spread over the last year working on the PS5 Pro support,” he writes. “This was a tough gig since we are one of the smallest teams releasing today and also one of only a handful of games supporting both 4K and 8K, as well as PSVR2. I am immensely proud of playing a part in this release today – hope you all enjoy!”
Along with 8K resolution support, the latest update for No Man’s Sky also added cross-save functionality and Mass Effect’s Normandy. This means you’ll be able to save your game on multiple devices, and also, if you wish, take on the role of Jeff “Joker” Moreau and pilot the Normandy SR-1 across the spacescapes of No Man’s Sky. The limited edition collaboration is originally from 2021, but was revived for N7 Day 2024.

How you survive is up to you. Assemble entire fleets of dreadnought-class freighters and tear across the universe; build sprawling habitable bases across planet surfaces, beneath the ground or under the ocean; buy and upgrade your own weapons and star ships and do battle with outlaw space pirates, hostile alien fauna or the mysterious sentinel fleets.
The universe is yours to explore – trillions upon trillions of planets, waiting to be discovered.
