Brighter Shores is the latest old-school MMORPG developed by Andrew Gower, the creator of Runescape. In this new MMORPG, you will begin as a trainee guard in the seemingly peaceful town of Hopeport. However, this peace is short-lived, as the town is soon invaded by hordes of goblins.
While the initial goblin raid serves as an introduction for players, many dangers await within the alleys of Hopeport and the surrounding wilderness. To survive against high-level monsters, you will need to level up in Brighter Shores. Additionally, leveling up is essential for progressing through the main quest. This guide provides beginners with quick and easy ways to level up efficiently in Brighter Shores.

Completing Quests
Completing quests is one of the best ways to level up quickly in Brighter Shores. After finishing the tutorial quest by saving Captain Jal Degreene, Corporal Binns will ask you to reach level 15 to unlock bow training, and level 60 to continue the main quest. Initially, you will have access to three quests:
- The Obelisk
- The Lost Shipment
- The Brannof Inheritance
For beginners aiming to level up, completing The Obelisk first is recommended, as it has no requirements. In contrast, The Lost Shipment requires a level 25 in Fishing, and The Brannof Inheritance requires a level 50 in Alchemy and level 61 in Chef. Completing The Obelisk quest rewards 10,600 Guard XP, which can increase a beginner’s Guard level by 10-12. Currently, Brighter Shores is still in early access, so content may expand over time.
Farming Enemies
For beginners, farming small enemies is a reliable way to earn Guard XP. Enemies consistently provide XP and may drop equipment and money. Fortunately, enemies in Brighter Shores scale with your Guard level, so you won’t encounter tougher enemies until you are ready for them.
Old Street East is a good early XP farming spot, with Deathcrows as targets. Going further east, you will find groups of goblins near the Town Gates. Both types of enemies are fairly easy to defeat and may drop starting gear to help you prepare for future battles. Instead of fighting monsters, you can also battle sparring guards in the Sparring Area next to the Training Ground.

Leveling Other Professions
It’s recommended to focus on gaining XP until you reach level 15-20 in Guard. Afterward, consider leveling up Chef and Fishing to raise your total level to 60. All professions in Brighter Shores are profitable and worthwhile to level up, with Chef and Fishing being the easiest for beginners. If you choose the Fishing route, you can start by farming Lesser Eel at Eel Street Bridge. Once your backpack is full of Lesser Eels, head south of the street to find a merchant who will buy most types of fish. After selling fish to the merchant, return to Eel Street Bridge and continue farming until you reach your target level.
In Hopeport, you can also level up the Forager and Alchemist professions. Since starting levels in all professions are easier to progress, aim to reach level 20 in Guard and level 10 in the other professions to hit the total level 60 needed to unlock the main quest. However, if you prefer focusing on a particular profession, feel free to do so. Brighter Shores introduces a variety of professions to explore, and leveling them all is not necessary for progression.
