John Blacksad is a cat who’s seen it all, and his heightened senses might be just what you’ll need to crack the case.

The club’s star boxer is nowhere to be found after the suspicious death of the owner, and it’s up to you to figure out what happened. The game isn’t based on any specific issue of the comic book, either, making it easy to dive in if you’re new to the series (and you may even find a new comic series in the process!).

If you figure out the culprit through investigations and class trials where everyone makes their case, then the murderer is put to death, but if you fail, everyone who’s innocent will be killed while the killer is released from the school prison.

The Wolf Among Us

If you don’t know Telltale Games for their iconic Walking Dead series, then you’ll likely know them from The Wolf Among Us, the twisted fairytale mystery. Fabletown is typically a pretty peaceful place, but when a string of murders happens to disrupt that peace, sheriff Bigby Wolf is on the job.

Over the course of five episodes, you’ll enjoy the graphic novel style of the game, despite its move to 3D over the Chicken Police series. If the old-school detective work was what called you to the Chicken Police series, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a triple-A title offering the same kind of antique thrill. Launched in 2011, LA Noire primarily follows young detective Cole Phelps as he works his way up0 through the Los Angeles Police Department in 1947.

While you’ll start the game as a patrol officer on the streets of the City of Angels as it was in the old Hollywood days, you’ll eventually work your way up to the Vice division and begin cracking a much larger mystery. Interrogate subjects and put together clues to get to the bottom of this tale of crime and corruption.

Introduced in 2001 for the Nintendo DS, the Ace Attorney series has become one of the most beloved visual novels of all time. You’ll play as the titular Phoenix, bumbling his way through ridiculous, pun-heavy court cases and presenting evidence to support his findings.
