Key Takeaways
- Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 will finally introduce the graphical update we’ve all been waiting for – improved toe details.
- While wearing over 118 different open-toed footwear, your previously blocky toes will now be more rounded and will have more definition.
- Other graphical improvements include more detailed environments, clothing, and character models, but who cares about that when we have some toes to show off.
Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 is just a few days away, as we’ll finally be able to dive into some juicy post-Dawntrail story quests, the first portion of the Echoes of Vana’Diel Alliance Raid, and a new series of Allied Society quests for the Pelupelu on November 12. It will also bring with it various improvements to the game as a whole, all of which have been detailed in some preliminary patch notes provided by Square Enix earlier today.
There are a bunch of little tweaks and additions that weren’t mentioned in the most recent live letters, though one of them stands out among the rest as quite possibly the most important graphical update the game has ever seen. Our toes are now vastly more detailed.
Final Fantasy Patch 7.1 Adds Improved Toe Detail
According to the patch notes (shared by Twitter user Aitaikimochi), toe detailing will be improved while wearing a massive amount of footwear, with 118 items in total. Square Enix has also provided before and after photos of a character’s feet so we can see the difference more clearly, the old version being more blocky and blurry, and the new version being slightly more rounded and with more definition on each toe.

It feels so good to finally get my hands on the rewards I’ve coveted for so long.
Of course, it would be extremely odd if high-def grippers were the only graphical improvement made with Patch 7.1, and you’ll be pleased to know that certain clothing items have been improved too. Transparency effects on certain clothing and glasses have also been increased, so it now actually looks like your character has lenses in their specs, while slight adjustments to character models have also been made. Don’t worry, you’re getting a free Fantasia.
The graphical improvements will also extend to the world of Final Fantasy 14 itself, as it was revealed that areas in previous expansions are getting more detailing and clutter added to them, such as making merchant stalls a bit more vibrant. Vegetation like bushes and trees will now be rendered in high definition, making them look instantly better, and all these improvements together will simply make the game (and our toes) look the best it ever has.
Square Enix’s popular MMO, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, has players step into the role of the Warrior of Light in the world of Eorzea. There, they find themselves testing their mettle against Primals, the Garlean Empire, the Ascians, and plenty of other threats.
This award-winning MMO now has multiple expansions to its name, with the most recent Endwalker expansion bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc to a close. Director and producer Yoshi-P has promised lots of plans for future content and the game has regular updates to keep players occupied.
