Deliverance 2 is Already Side-Stepping a Big Controversy

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is one of the many games slated to kick off the new year with a bang. The immersive medieval RPG is highly-anticipated, and news confirming that developer Warhorse Studios will forego integrating Denuvo has been an exciting revelation. After rumors circulated suggesting that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 would feature the controversial anti-piracy solution, those claims have been proven untrue.

Digital Rights Management, or DRM, has been utilized by many game developers in recent years, intending to halt piracy of their games. Denuvo is one of the most popular of these DRMs, but many gamers claim that its use hinders in-game performance. During a Twitch broadcast, Warhorse Studios PR chief Tobias Stolz-Zwliling confirmed Denuvo will not be used in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. With the use of the anti-piracy system being a common point of controversy for game launches, Warhorse Studios avoiding this issue from the start is a strong decision.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Foregoing Denuvo Hopefully Bodes Well For In-Game Performance at Launch

Denuvo’s Troubled History

Although Denuvo has claimed in the past that its system does not cause the performance of games to drop, this has been a major point of debate. Through the years, many have claimed that games run better when Denuvo has been removed, continuing to fuel the controversy surrounding the software. There has been a long list of games that have used Denuvo then eventually removed it, leading to the ongoing claims of causing poor performance to hold a lot of weight. Once rumors began swirling about the system possibly being used for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, many prospective players were understandably worried. However, Stolz-Zwilling addressing these claims has eased the concerns of many. The first Kingdom Come: Deliverance faced its own performance issues, so it’s pleasing to know that Denuvo won’t be the cause of any potential sequel hiccups.

There was already disappointment regarding Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s launch delay, but the news of a Denuvo-free product is a silver lining for many eager to play. With this newfound reassurance, the impending release of such an anticipated sequel now feels even more promising.
