Key Takeaways
- Black Ops 6’s Recon Specialty has been nerfed once again.
- What was originally a 2.0 second benefit has now been cut to a flat 1.0 seconds, essentially nerfing it for good.
- The perk’s benefit frustrated fans greatly, making games on small maps particularly difficult.
Just a few days after initially nerfing the Recon Specialty benefit, Treyarch has nerfed it once again. This time, however, it’s been nerfed for good.
As outlined in the Call of Duty blog, Recon has had its benefit duration completely halved. Originally, the length that enemies in Black Ops 6 were highlighted was a flat 2.0 seconds. After the game’s first major patch, that figure was cut to 1.5 seconds. Now, it’ll only last 1 second, essentially nerfing it for good.
While it appears to be a significant overcorrection, Treyarch is amenable to adjusting things in the future. Per the blog, the developer “will continue to monitor data and feedback on Combat Specialties throughout post-launch.”

Recon Was Really Busted
For the uninitiated, the Recon Combat Specialty was a benefit that was available to players who equipped three Recon perks in the same class. Through that perk, “enemies can be seen through walls for a short time after respawn; a HUD edge indicator flashes when an enemy is outside your view; leave no death skulls when killing enemies.”
It was essentially a built-in form of wall-hacks, without the need to install any cheating software or mods. Naturally, of course, it drew ire from the larger Black Ops 6 community, particularly as it made life difficult on the game’s numerous small maps, including Nuketown.
Now, it no longer appears that gamers will have their playtime interrupted by a legal, yet frustrating perk. Of course, that doesn’t mean that Treyarch can’t buff up the perk in the future, and the studio probably will at some point, but at least in the interim, there’s been a solution. And the solution didn’t take weeks for it to be implemented.
