This week’s episode of DanMachi picks up on the aftermath of Freya’s defilement of humans and gods alike, coupled with Bell Cranel’s assimilation into the Freya Familia.

Freya’s charm isn’t exactly omnipotent, as several holes have been left throughout the labyrinth city and the dungeon. However, Freya has set her plan in motion to ensure Bell remains by her side, and all those who resist are forced to bend to her will. This is merely the beginning of Freya’s obsessive actions to keep Bell at her side, as she has proven herself to be capable of stooping below her status of a god.

Bell Cranel Has Been Forcefully Taken In By Freya

After Freya’s charm rewrote everyone’s memories in Orario, Bell was forcibly taken in by the Freya Familia. Since Bell is immune to all charms, his memories remain intact, meaning the first step for Freya was to make Bell doubt himself and his memories with the Hestia Familia. While creating false memories is no simple feat, Freya concocted a plan that involved all of her children, ordering them to pretend that Bell has been a part of the Freya Familia ever since he set foot in Orario.

While Bell initially denied these facts and questioned the legitimacy of Freya’s claims, he was eventually put in doubt when the goddess was able to check his status, a feat that only an adventurer’s current goddess can do. Freya was able to achieve this by using a spell that erased Hestia’s goddess emblem from Bell’s back and replaced it with her own. This moment served as the breaking point for Bell, as the emblem on his back served as concrete proof that he indeed was a member of the Freya Familia.

A Facade of False Memories

To ensure that Bell would let go of his previous memories with the Hestia Familia, Freya attempted to implant false memories into Bell’s mind. Whether it was the day he set foot in Orario or the circumstances around his level ups, Freya crafted the perfect explanation that would align with his previous memories, albeit with the exclusion of Hestia altogether.

To an extent, Freya’s attempt at rewriting Bell’s memories seemed to have worked, as he began to doubt his past with Hestia. He also eased up to Freya, indicating the possibility of Bell giving up the idea of persuading everyone of his roots in the Hestia Familia. However, Freya has left a few holes in her plan that could potentially allow Bell to fight off the familia’s attempts at rewriting his memories.

Freya Has Ensured All Residents Of Orario Are Under Her Charm

Freya’s charm is incredibly powerful, even capable of brainwashing gods and goddesses who rival her own status. However, her power is just shy of being truly omnipotent, as her charm cannot reach every corner of Orario and the Dungeon. Apart from Hestia and Bell Cranel, a few other individuals in Orario remain unaffected by Freya’s charm, with Ouranos, the primordial Greek god, being one of these characters.

Since Ouranos is protected by his altar, he remains immune to all sorts of charms and spells. However, Freya has struck a deal with the primordial god, which will ensure that her familia will explore the lower parts of the dungeon and even begin preparations for defeating the Black Dragon. With Ouranos’ current weakened state, he is forced to accept these conditions, as he himself states that there is nothing he can do to put a stop to Freya’s obsessive antics.

Whenever I cast my charm over a wide area, there are always places that slip through the cracks.

Ghosts Of the Past

Apart from the primordial god Ouranos, a few other characters have also, to an extent, attempted to break free from Freya’s charm. Eina, Bell’s advisor at the Guild, almost broke free from the charm after she discovered her logbook, which led to memories of Bell flooding back to her. However, Freya took her logbook and any records of Bell away, coupled with using her charm on Eina again to ensure she would forget this encounter.

Freya has also mentioned that those living in Rivira inside the dungeon are still unaffected by her charm. Moreover, those that were outside Orario at the time she cast her charm would still have their memories intact. This opens up the possibility for a few more characters to show up who still remain unaffected by Freya’s spell. These facts also confirm that Ryu and Asfi are safe from the charm, as they were able to fly out of Orario just in time. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon may have taken a grave turn, though it won’t be long before those free from the charm manage to overthrow Freya’s dominion.
