In Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll likely come across items called bait that are tucked away in some rather unexpected places. While it’s obvious they’re meant for fishing, it takes a while before this actual purpose becomes clear.

Fishing takes place on the Searunner — the Gauntlet Runner modified for navigating the treacherous seas of Euchronia. Heismay will join you during the activity, and the type of bait can lead to specific catches as long as you choose the right response to the dialogue prompts. These marine ingredients will come in handy for cooking dishes that have useful benefits.
How To Fish
Fishing exclusively happens on the Searunner, and to unlock the activity, you’ll have to wait until 08/14, right after you attend Louis’s Soirée. The Sanctists will unveil the next challenge for the Tournament of the Throne, which is seeking a pagan relic, and to that end, your party’s next stop will be Virga Island at Louis’s behest.
You’ll need to cross the ocean for this, and fortunately, Neuras will have already made the necessary modifications to the Runner to handle the waters. As you set sail for Virga Island, Neuras will mention that Heismay has conveniently left his fishing gear on the Searunner’s deck, signaling that the fishing activity is available on the menu.
How To Get All Bait Types
You’ll need to interact with the fishing rod and make sure you’ve got bait to fish. There are three types of lure to choose from, with two fairly easy to find and one that’s a bit harder to come by. Each affects your catch, with the rare bait giving you better ingredients.
- Worm Bait: Sold by the Bug-Selling Boy on Cattleracket Road in Martira for 100 Reeve apiece.
- Grasshopper Bait: Also available from the Bug-Selling Boy on Cattleracket Road for 250 Reeve each.
- Tail Bait: The rarest of the three. While you’ll get one by helping the Man in Pain at the Arenafront Wharf in Port Brilehaven, you can consistently loot four by cleaning the storage room with the Upright Cleaning Tool in the Gauntlet Runner every alternating day when it’s on the road.
All Bait Answers And Their Rewards
While fishing, Heismay will be by your side, and you’ll need to choose a bait from your inventory. Each bait type has a specific fish associated with it, but your response to the protagonist’s random frustration during the pastime will also affect what extras you’ll haul up, whether it’s a Queen’s Honey Jar cooking ingredient, a Lone Boot valuable, or none.
