Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds Absurd Day-One Game

Key Takeaways

  • Goat Simulator Remastered is now available on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
  • Developer-publisher Coffee Stain describes the new and improved version of its 2014 game as a “cash grab.”
  • The original Goat Simulator will be leaving Xbox Game Pass on November 15. Goat Simulator 3 is still available on the service.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has added Goat Simulator Remastered to its content library. This is the fourth title to reach Microsoft’s subscription service since the turn of the month and the 128th new Xbox Game Pass release in 2024.

Developed by Sweden-based Coffee Stain Studios, Goat Simulator is an absurdist sandbox game that was initially released for PC in April 2014 before making its way to mobile devices in September of that year. It was later ported to the PS3 and PS4 in 2015 and then released on the Switch in 2019. Five years later, Coffee Stain announced Goat Simulator Remastered for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds Day-One Game and 2 Beloved Classics

Xbox Game Pass kicks off its November 2024 expansion on a high note, by adding one day-one game and two beloved classic titles.

This new and improved version of the wacky sandbox game is now out as of November 7. And like Microsoft promised back in October, Goat Simulator Remastered is also available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Like all the other day-one titles on the service, Coffee Stain’s latest release can be played with a PC Game Pass subscription or an XGP Ultimate membership. Goat Simulator Remastered also comes with Xbox Cloud Gaming support, which is an exclusive perk of XGP Ultimate.

Xbox Game Pass Now Has 3 Goat Simulator Games, But Not For Much Longer

Following this arrival, Microsoft’s subscription service now has three Goat Simulator games on offer: the original, its newly added remaster, and its sequel, which is cheekily titled Goat Simulator 3 rather than GS2. But this won’t be the case for much longer, as the original Goat Simulator is already confirmed to be leaving Xbox Game Pass soon. It will do so on November 15, along with Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name and five other titles.

Its departure shouldn’t be a big loss for the XGP library, not least because Goat Simulator Remastered is meant to be the definitive edition of the game. This is largely because it incorporates all of the DLC packs from the PC original, as well as some hit expansions for the mobile version of the game. “We could have sold them separately to you again, but if we’re honest, this is already a cash-grab,” reads the game’s cheeky Steam page.

We could have sold [the DLC] separately to you again, but if we’re honest, this is already a cash-grab.

The new version of the game also includes a revamped mutation menu and improvements to lighting, VFX, and animations, among other novelties. Goat Simulator Remastered even gets rid of Flapmaster, an infuriating achievement from the 2014 original that required players to score 10 points in an incredibly difficult Flappy Bird-inspired mini-game.
