There are a total of 6 Tallnecks in Horizon Zero Dawn, with 5 beings on the main map and the last one being located on the Frozen Wilds DLC map. After completing a few opening missions, you can locate all the Tallnecks in the game and override them to uncover all the essential activities surrounding them. They also disable all the dangerous machines around and act as a fast travel point.


You can use your focus to tag a Tallneck’s movement path and identify elevated places that you can use to grab on.

Level 7

In the starting area on the right (east) of Devil’s Thirst Ancient Ruins.

Climb on top of the desolate building with the zipline and jump onto the Tallneck as it passes by.

Tallneck: Sun-Steps

Level 17

North of Lone Light settlement, inside a circular coliseum.

Scale on top of the highest platforms and jump onto the Tallneck from there.

Tallneck: Copper Deeps

Level 13

Right side (east) of the Gatelands Camp settlement.

Head over to the island in the center of the Tallneck’s movement path and move up the cliff positioned at just the right angle for you to jump onto the machine.

Tallneck: Spearshafts

Level 21

At the edge of the map from South of the Meridian.

Climb the hill in the middle of Tallneck’s path and jump from its edge to grab onto the moving machine.

Tallneck: Rustwash

Level 23

Located northeast of Blazon Arch on the west side of the map.

Climb onto the highest elevated cliff and jump on the Tallneck.

Tallneck: Frostfigures

Level 35

At the beginning of the map for the Frozen Wilds DLC.

Locate the Tallneck parts to repair it, which includes an array, a stabilizer, and an actuator.


It’s recommended that gamers find and override the Tallnecks in Horizon Zero Dawn as soon as possible; doing so will open up the map’s visibility and highlight great activities for players to earn XP and skills from.
