What To Do With The Restraining Order In Life Is Strange: Double Exposure?

In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, there’s no love lost between Caledon University’s self-aggrandizing literature professor Lucas Colmenero and Max’s deceased (and, also, not?) best friend, Safi. This comes to a head in the second chapter when Max discovers Lucas’ restraining order against Safi.

To open Vinh’s locked phone, we need to find the date of death of some “magician scientist.”

Lucas explains that someone has been saying awful things to his son. The son says it was Lucas, but Prof. Colmenero blames Safi. At the end of the conversation, you have the option to send Safi a picture of the restraining order or to agree to keep it quiet. With just the first two chapters available, it’s difficult to say how each decision will play out in the long term. But we can help you make an educated choice by telling you about each choice’s immediate consequences.

Updated November 7, 2024: We’ve updated this guide to include the consequences of this decision.

What Happens If You Tell Safi About The Restraining Order?

Max in Life is Strange Double Exposure sending a picture of the restraining order to Safi with the butterfly symbol in the top left corner.

If you opt to send Safi the restraining order, Lucas is understandably angry. He tells Max that she isn’t as good of a person as she thinks she is and that she and Safi deserve each other. Max just leaves, commenting that she’s got all the information out of Lucas that she’s likely to get.

Lucas’ hypothesis doesn’t make much sense, right? Why would his kid say Lucas said something that Safi actually said?

What Happens If You Keep The Restraining Order Quiet?

Lucas saying that the things his son says he said make him sick in Life is Strange Double Exposure.

If you agree not to send the restraining order, Lucas will be happy, and he will thank you for giving him the chance to figure things out with his family. The conversation ends, and Max leaves.

To get into the long-term effects of this decision, we need to get into spoiler territory.

Consequences For The Rest Of The Game

Lucas sits at the base of the Caledon statue in Life is Strange Double Exposure.

Send The Picture

If you send the picture, Lucas will furiously kick you out of his office when you try to visit him in Chapter 3. He tells Max that he blames her for him having to send his son, Robbie, out of the country. In Chapter 5, when you encounter Lucas in the Combined Timeline at the end of the game, he’s still angry with you and will threaten to write a book telling his side of the story.

Delete The Picture

On the other hand, if you give Lucas the benefit of the doubt and delete the photo of the restraining order, when you go to visit Lucas in his office, he’ll show you the official, signed restraining order, which also allows you to catch a glimpse of a confirmation email indicating that a Wilder Beasts Than These movie is in the works.

You can also ask him about Maya Okada (though, don’t expect an answer). Later, when you encounter Lucas in the Combined Timeline in Chapter 5, he isn’t angry at Max. Instead, he asks for Max’s feedback on a non-apology apology he’s planning to post online. He doesn’t seem like he’ll learn any lessons from this anytime soon.
