After Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players reach what would effectively be Level 56, they’ll be given the option to Prestige. Doing so will reset their level and combat stats, effectively allowing them to start over from Level 1. They can repeat this process up to ten times, with each Prestige offering its own set of unique rewards and calling cards.
Although players will gain the ability to permanently unlock one item each time they Prestige, the process can sometimes feel like a bit of a backward step. So much so, in fact, that some players may be wondering whether it’s worth doing in the first place. The following guide will look at the pros and cons of Prestiging in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in an attempt to make the decision a little easier.
Should You Prestige in Black Ops 6?
As with any other big video game decision, players should think carefully about whether or not they want to Prestige in Black Ops 6. There are a lot of things to consider, such as how much time they plan on sinking into the game and how much they rely on gear, perks, or Wildards that are unlocked at higher levels. Generally speaking, though, casual players may want to avoid Prestiging altogether or just stick to Prestige 1 so that they can unlock the Return of the King Trophy / Achievement.
On the other hand, those who enjoy cosmetics and can see themselves sinking a lot of time into Black Ops 6 should Prestige whenever they get the opportunity to do so, particularly if they plan on making the most of Black Ops 6‘s Double XP weekends. Obviously, there’s a bit more to it than that, so those still on the fence about whether or not they should Prestige are advised to check out the table below for a more detailed list of pros and cons.
Why You Should Prestige in Black Ops 6 |
Why You Shouldn’t Prestige in Black Ops 6 |
---|---|
Players can permanently unlock one piece of gear each time they Prestige. |
Prestiging will reset all of the player’s BO6 Level Unlocks, which may be a problem for those who rely on high-level gear, perks, or Wildcards. |
Players will unlock the Return of the King Trophy / Achievement by entering Prestige 1. |
The PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 does not have a platinum Trophy, so some players may not be too bothered about grinding to unlock Trophies knowing that there’ll be no Platinum at the end of it all. |
Some players see Prestiging as a sort of bragging right. |
Others might argue that Prestiging requires more time than skill. |
Players can keep track of their stats for each prestige, making it much easier to see their improvement over time. |
Newer players are more likely to leave lobbies in which they’re paired against high Prestige players, meaning that those who Prestige may end up facing tougher opposition. |
Players can unlock special Prestige rewards and challenges and will receive more XP for completing Daily Challenges. |
These rewards are purely cosmetic and XP becomes somewhat useless to players who decide to stick at Level 55. |
If players decide not to Prestige but then change their minds later on, they’ll still be able to Prestige by visiting the Prestige menu in the Progression section of the Barracks.
