Mass Effect Amazon TV Show From Fast & Furious Writer Now In Development

Key Takeaways

  • A Mass Effect TV show is reportedly now in development at Amazon, with Fast & Furious 9’s David Casey as writer and executive producer.
  • Other producers include Daredevil’s Karim Zreik, EA’s Michael Gamble, and Borderlands’ Ari Arad.
  • Unfortunately, the release window and plot details are currently unknown, meaning the project will remain a mystery for a little while longer.

Back in 2021, Amazon struck a deal with publisher Electronic Arts for the rights to make a Mass Effect TV show, and while it was exciting news and generated discussion at the time, we’ve heard very little about any potential plans in the three years since. We know that Amazon has been pretty busy with video game adaptations, having overseen the release of the excellent Fallout TV show, but there was very little indicator that the company had shifted to Mass Effect.

Now that BioWare has released Dragon Age: The Veilguard and is fully focused on Mass Effect 5, it seems as though Amazon is using the opportunity to get Mass Effect up on the silver screen. According to Variety, a Mass Effect TV show has now fully entered development at Amazon MGM Studios, and that Fast & Furious 9 writer David Casey has been brought on board to both write and executive produce.

Mass Effect Amazon TV Show’s Plot Is Being Kept Under Wraps

Other executive producers on the show are reportedly Karim Zreik, whose previous work includes Daredevil and The Defenders, EA’s Michael Gamble, and Ari Arad, whose previous work includes the live action Ghost in the Shell movie, and… Borderlands. Yeah, let’s hope that isn’t an indicator of things to come, though it’s hard to imagine a video game adaptation doing much worse.

Mass Effect Is Teasing Us In All Of The Right Ways

BioWare has a lot to prove with its next two games, and with any luck it will blow us away.

Unfortunately, that’s about all the information we have at this moment, as we have no idea how far along in development this TV show is, or when it will likely be released. We also have absolutely no idea what the TV show’s plot will be, as we can’t fully guarantee it will be a faithful retelling of the first game’s story. Amazon’s Like A Dragon TV show adaptation has taught us that much.

Still, Amazon is probably the best company for Mass Effect to be in the hands of, having recently smashed it out of the park with Fallout. We also know that it has a God of War TV show in development, which recently hit a concerning snag, but it’s proof that the company can handle huge gaming franchises. It’s possible that Amazon could be lining up the show for a release alongside Mass Effect 5, though that doesn’t really narrow down the date. Either way, Mass Effect fans will be eating well in a few years.
