Marvel Snap has officially launched its latest season, dubbed War of the Nine Realms. As the name implies, the season is centered around Asgard, featuring notable heroes and villains like Odin, Thor, Loki, and Surtur. In addition to the return of Deadpool’s Diner, there’s plenty to be excited about this season, including the new season pass.
Marvel Snap‘s latest season is set to run for about a month, following the typical release cycle. Players may have noticed Surtur prominently featured in the splash art, along with cards, variants, boosters, and titles related to him. While Marvel Snap‘s rewards differ for free-to-play players and Premium Season Pass holders, the theme remains consistent. With Surtur as the centerpiece of November’s Season Pass, players might be wondering how his effects work alongside his identity.

The Surtur Season Exclusive Card Is Setting Marvel Snap Ablaze
Surtur’s Identity in Marvel Comics
Surtur is one of the strongest villains in Marvel Comics, commonly depicted as an enemy of Odin and Thor. As the ruler of Muspelheim, an extradimensional realm consumed by eternal fire, he commands an army of Fire Demons and towers over 1,000 feet in height. With his massive sword, Twilight, he possesses the power to destroy entire worlds. Throughout Marvel lore, his ultimate goal is the destruction of Asgard, an apocalyptic event known as Ragnarok, which he often seeks to trigger by crossing the Bifrost and unleashing his fury.

Notably, throughout comic book history, Loki and Surtur have frequently formed uneasy alliances. For example, Loki once freed Surtur from his prison within the Earth, along with other enemies of Asgard, to bring about Ragnarok, hoping to seize control and be crowned king of Asgard in the aftermath. In another instance, after a battle with Odin and his subsequent resurrection, Surtur strikes a deal with Loki so that he may set fire to Yggdrasil, the World Tree.
How Surtur’s Season Pass Card Works
Marvel Snap‘s newest Surtur card is one of many rewards in the War of the Nine Realms Season Pass, which offers 100 tiers of rewards. Starting at Level 51, Premium players can access forty-nine tiers of Season Cache rewards. Early rewards include a Surtur and Odin Variant card designed by Andrea Guardino, Thor Boosters, Credits, and more. Free-to-play players can expect to primarily receive Boosters, Credits, Gold, and the #1 All-Father Title.
Due to Marvel Snap‘s “pay-to-progress” design, Surtur, as a season-exclusive card, is only obtainable through the Premium track. After the season, Surtur will become available in the free-to-play collection track. It’s also worth mentioning that a Surtur card back is available to all players at Level 48.

The need to know when playing with or against Surtur is at its base, the card costs 3 Energy and yields 5 Power. After players play a card with 10 or more Power, Surtur will gain +3 Power. When paired with Skaar, whose ability reads ‘costs 2 less for each of your cards that has 10 or more Power,’ the two can form a lethal duo when climbing the ranked ladder. Furthermore, with the hot location, Great Portal, which adds a random card with 10 or more Power to a player’s hand, it’s no surprise that many players are reaching Infinite with Surtur in their primary deck.
