Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a lot of powerful enemies to beat, but the High Dragons have always been a legendary challenge for all fans of the franchise. These elemental ancient beings roam the skies of Thedas looking for their next prey and hoarding treasure, and adventurers are always going after their riches.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Best Early-Game Armor For Mages
Mages are a particularly squishy class in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which makes it even more important to equip them with the best early-game armor.
If players are up to the challenge, this guide details all the High Dragons they can face and defeat in the game, as well as their exact location, their weaknesses, useful tips on how to beat them, and the reward for beating each of these sub-bosses.
Fangscorcher Location In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Fangscorcher is first mentioned as players follow up on Taash’s Companion Quests, during a conversation with a rival Lord of Fortune: Cutter. This dragon has made her nest in an abandoned village on the borders of Arlathan forest, and the Veil Jumpers have been quite worried about her incursions on the local Halla. After completing “A Dragon Class,” Taash will call Rook later, and a new Quest will begin, titled: “Slaying The Fangscorcher.
The location for the Quest Waypoint is north of the Arlathan Forest, near the place where the Water Puzzle is located.
Players should prepare in advance with
Fire Resistance and Ice or Lightning Damage
since the Fangsorcher is weak to those damage types.
When the quest starts, follow Taash’s advice and lie low as the party moves away from the incoming fire. The Dragon knows Rook and their crew are there, so there will be no possible surprise attack, like in previous Dragon Age games.
How To Beat Fangscorcher In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The best strategy to beat the Fangscorcher is to avoid its long-distance fireballs and get close and personal (even if players are using the Mage class). The secret, like with any Dragons in the franchise, lies at its feet. Hitting the feet and claws will crush the Fangscorcher’s Barrier, resulting in a Takedown state. The Dragon will fall to the side and the “heart” zone will be exposed. Players need to quickly target that area in said window of opportunity to cause severe damage to the beast.
When the Fangscorcher is down to 75% Health, it will fly on top of a cliff and target Rook with Fireballs while its Barrier regenerates. Dodge, and prepare for the beast’s landing, since it will target an area and do a “body slam,” with the player as the epicenter.
When the Fangscorcher is down to 50% Health, it will repeat the same mechanic, only this time it will call meteors from the sky that will cause severe Fire damage in small areas across the battlefield. Then, it will start using its fire breath to cover the arena in a sort of “jumping the rope” mechanic where players need to dodge twice to prevent taking severe Fire damage and becoming Burned.
The Formless One Location In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The next High Dragon players might be facing will be The Formless One, an undead Lightning Dragon that is trapped deep beneath the Great Necropolis zone, where players meet Emmrich Volkarin for the first time. Once players complete the Necropolis Introductory Quest “Where The Dead Must Go,” they’ll be able to explore the area leisurely.
In one of the chambers that becomes available, players will find several Venatori enemies trying to enter a closed vault. Once they defeat them and investigate the area, they will hear a voice from inside the chamber, and a new quest will pop up titled: “Pinnacle of Its Kind.”
This quest will send players to defeat three demons located in Dock Town, Arlathan Forest, and Hossberg Wetlands. These are easily pinpointed on the map and can be tracked down without too many issues. Once they approach each of the areas, players need to look for a censer that needs to be activated to summon the demons, fight them, and kill them.
Once all three demons are dead, players can return to the Vault in the Necropolis to face the final challenge: a giant Dracolich named The Formless One.
This High Dragon
shoots lightning and is resistant to that element and Necrotic damage
(since it’s an undead), so players need to use Fire or Ice to beat it.
How To Beat The Formless One In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
As with the Falmescorcher, the strategy is more or less the same: attack the shiny hind legs, then the frontal legs to break its barrier. When the enemy falls to the ground, take advantage of those precious seconds to attack the dragon with everything Rook has, and call for companions to create Primers and Combos to cause even more damage.
When The Formless One is down to 75% Health, it will fly on top of the Colosseum Walls, right above the treasure chest, and target Rook with Lightning. Dodge, and then the Dragon will shout and create a Shock shield around itself. It will then land above Rook and cause Shock damage to any melee attackers. In this case, the best tactic is to switch to range attacks to prevent receiving lots of damage.
Before landing, it will also summon undead to fight against the team, which is annoying because they will never cease spawning during the fight. The best course of action is to
kite them to the side and completely ignore them
. They’re slow, but they can distract companions, so ordering them to attack the same target as the player is a good way to prevent this from going sideways.
Then, repeat the previous strategy: target its legs, take it down, and attack its heart. Once The Formless One is down to 50%, it will repeat the previous mechanic, but the lightning breath it shoots will become even faster. This time, when the dragon descends on the arena, it will start using its lightning breath from one side to the other of the arena, covering the entire battlefield. This attack needs to be dodged twice.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – How To Find The Point Unique Weapon
The Point is a ridiculously broken Unique Weapon that Mages can use in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Here’s where to get it.
Revenant Dragon Location In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Revenant Dragon is another tough bone to chew that is arguably the most difficult High Dragon to locate in the game. It is hidden behind the Thrice Locked Door on Beacon Island (in the Crossroads). Players will need to track down three Blight Champions (Ogres) — located in Dock Town, Arlathan Forest, and Hossberg Wetlands — to pick up their essences and unlock three separate doors located in the Crossroads.
Each door leads to a “Pillar,” a powerful Blighted Knight that will be protecting a giant Blight Node. Each time players take down a node, a purified essence will drop. Players need to take that purified essence to the Thrice Locked Door and open one of the seals, which will start the quest “The Heart of Corruption.”
By the time players are around level 40 and have completed the Regrets of The Dread Wolf Quest, they should be able to face this High Dragon that shifts between the Lightning and Fire elements.
How To Beat Revenant Dragon In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Start the fight by destroying all the Blight Cysts on the battlefield to prevent Darkspawn and unnecessary complications mid-fight. Then, pay attention, since this dragon can cause blindness status, blocking all Companion skills and considerably reducing visibility.
In case they manage to
convince Mythal to help
, she will fly in her High Dragon shape to provoke the first takedown on the Revenant Dragon, allowing Rook and their Party to
deal damage for free
. Once this phase ends, Mythal will leave, and players will have to deal with the Revenant Dragon by themselves. This huge green monster is tough as nails and can jump around the arena, launching
powerful Lightning shots
at Rook from a distance. The ideal strategy is to keep at close range to prevent being constantly bombarded by this attack.
If Mythal isn’t there to help the players, the strategy remains the same as with the other dragons: target the legs, take the Dragon down, then target the heart and deal as much damage as possible when it’s vulnerable.
When the Revenant Dragon is at 50% Health, it will switch to Fire Damage and start spitting flames all around. It will use its flaming breath attack to sweep the arena from side to side, so players need to be careful and dodge twice.
Kataranda The Stormrider Location In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Following up with Taash’s Dragon Slaying Quests, ‘Kataranda the Stormrider‘ will be the next challenge players will have to tackle if they want to get the ‘Bringing Down The Sky‘ Trophy/Achievement. This powerful Lightning Dragon has its nest located on the Rivain Coast, and players will be able to track it down and challenge it by following the Quest.
First, they will need to locate some wreckage on the coast, then, follow Taash to recover some of the Lost Hoard of the Dragon, fighting with some crows that have stolen the shiny objects, until they have enough pieces to lure the dragon.
How To Beat Kataranda The Stormrider In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Once everything is ready, follow the waypoint toward the Arena, where Kataranda the Stormrider will appear almost immediately. This High Dragon has a double advantage during the fight. The first is thanks to its high resistance to Lightning, Fire, and Ice, which only leaves Necrotic damage as the best possible damage type against it.
The second advantage is the combat arena itself. If players pay attention, they will notice huge puddles of water all across the arena, with little dry spaces between them. Rook should be careful to only stand on the dry spots during this battle. Water conducts electricity, and when Kataranda flies and perches on the rock, she will then electrify the field, causing Shock to everyone standing in the puddles.
Try to stay on dry land as much as possible, and when Kataranda lands again, it is more of the same: Hit the legs, bring the Dragon down, then target the shinny weak spot in the belly.

Here’s every faction players should know about in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Kaltenzahn Location In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Kalthezahn is a returning High Dragon from Dragon Age: Inquisition, and it is part of Taash’s final companion quest: ‘Lair of the Dragon King.’ Players will need to travel once again to the Rivain Coast to track down Taash’s mother, who has been kidnapped by Cutter, the Lord of Fortune players met during the ‘A Dragon Class’ Quest.
Once Rook and the party advance through the Lair, they will have to face a series of jumping puzzles to cross the heart of the volcano, dodging the lava pools and the attacks of the Antaam that want to prevent them from reaching their leader’s chamber. When players reach the Boss area, they will soon learn that they will not have to fight the leader of the rebel Qunari, but his pet dragon: Kalthezahn.
How To Beat Kaltenzahn In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Kaltenzahn is the final High Dragon players will face, and it’s quite similar to the Revenant Dragon in terms of power and attack pattern. The main differences are that it is an Ice Dragon, and it is vulnerable to Fire, and the Arena where the fight happens is tiny, which gives players less room to maneuver out of the Dragon’s reach.
Use fire Spells, or Fire-imbued weapons (with the Lyrium Knife Runes) to damage the Dragon’s legs, then when it falls to the ground, quickly stab it in the belly to cause more damage. This fight will be relatively easier, since by the time players reach this game stage, they should be stronger than the dragon.
Once players slay this dragon, they will be able to unlock the Bring the Sky Down Trophy/Achievement. But, the journey is not over; there is still some more Dragon Slaying fun to do in the game, since players will have to challenge two Ruined Dragons during the Ice and Fire Quest — and, if they choose to oppose Mythal instead of convincing her, they will have to kill her in her High Dragon form, as Mythal’s Retribution.
