GIGABYTE Reveals 16-Core Ryzen 9000 Series X3D CPU In Press Release

GIGABYTE might have inadvertently jumped the gun by revealing a somewhat open secret: There is a 16 Core Ryzen 9000 series X3D CPU in the works at AMD’s end even as it touts the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D which releases on the 7th of November.

Gigabyte’s press release that essentially touts its X3D Turbo Mode as a great way to get performance boosts on upcoming and existing AMD Ryzen 9000 series CPUs also mentions the sixteen-core X3D CPU that Thermal Grizzly has already named as the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

Gigabyte’s press release includes the following text:

GIGABYTE X3D Turbo Mode is a cutting-edge feature that unifies cores distribution, bandwidth tuning, and hardware power balancing, resulting in pushing the boundaries of gaming performance. Empirical testing demonstrates that this feature delivers tangible benefits to gamers, with performance increases of up to 18% for
incoming Ryzen™ 9000 series 16-core X3D processors
, an astounding 18% for Ryzen™ 9000 non-X3D processors, and 5% for Ryzen™ 9800 X3D processors*.

Gigabyte’s New X870E/X870 Motherboards Offer AI-Powered Performance Gains And More

GIGABYTE’s new motherboards are now available with performance-enhancing features, including AI-infused overclocking.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is being phased out in favor of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D which launches on the 7th and it has seen its prices move upwards as a result as available options temporarily narrowed as supplies dwindled for system builders and end-users, pushing prices closer to MSRP for AMD’s last generation gaming flagship.

The purported AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is expected to be targeting enthusiast-tier consumers as well as content creators, much like the Ryzen 9 7950X3D it will replace. It brings AMD’s Zen 5 core optimizations into the fold, making it the go-to for power users and gamers who need the eight extra cores it offers even as it is expected to come close to the 9800X3D in most games.

While the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is expected to rule the roost for gaming CPUs, the 16-core X3D CPU is expected to be a more well-rounded affair even as it is expected to surpass the 9950X in terms of cost with ease.

The specs of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor leak ahead of its planned launch, giving a better idea of what to expect.

Why Should You Care about a 16-core X3D CPU?

AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series X3D CPUs, spearheaded by the 7800X3D have indisputably been some of the fastest gaming CPUs available to end users. The 9000 series X3D CPUs, starting with the 9800X3D are expected to further build on that lead while offering performance and efficiency gains alike.

However, not all users have gaming as a primary or only use case, and the octa-core design of the 9800X3D, much like the 7800X3D is a limiting factor for use cases such as streaming, 3D modeling, and video editing to name a few. The upcoming 16-core 9950X3D is expected to change all of that by offering a high-performance, thread-heavy alternative to users who need the extra power to drive their work and gaming pursuits alike.
