EA Sports UFC 5 Releases New Fighter Update for November 2024

EA Sports UFC 5 Releases New Fighter Update for November 2024

Key Takeaways

  • EA Sports UFC 5 releases patch 1.16 on November 7, available now for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S,
  • The latest update adds two new fighters to the game: Carlos Prates and Jean Silva.
  • PlayStation 5 Pro owners will also be able to play at 4K resolution with 60fps during KO replays thanks to the latest UFC 5 update.

EA Sports UFC 5 developer EA Vancouver has deployed a brand-new patch update for the popular mixed martial arts fighting game on November 7, adding two new fighters to the ever-expanding roster while also making a handful of improvements and bug fixes. After launching to lukewarm reviews from players back in 2023, EA promised to release a steady stream of new updates to UFC 5 to reach nearly 100% parity with the UFC’s top ten rankings, and the latest update continues that promise.

Rumors are currently swirling of a potential EA Sports UFC 6 now being in development at EA Vancouver, but that doesn’t appear to have stopped the developer from delivering regular content updates to the series’ current installment. Celebrating the title’s one year anniversary last month, EA acknowledged the outcry from fans at launch surrounding the game’s lackluster lineup of fighters, before revealing a total of 70 new rostered fighters had been added to the game since launch (not including the two new fighters in the November 7 patch). After the launch of today’s update, there will be a total of 480 fighters in EA Sports UFC 5, which also includes alter egos.

While there are some important improvements in the November 7 update, fans will be pleased to know that patch 1.16 is adding two new fighters to EA Sports UFC 5: Carlos Prates and Jean Silva. Prates is an up-and-comer in the UFC’s Welterweight division, with 3 wins to his name and a scheduled bout with MMA veteran Neil Magny on November 9. Silva, who is a Featherweight fighter in the UFC, is also on 3 fight win streak with the promotion and has been to war with the likes of Drew Dober and Charles Jourdain in his last two bouts.

Alongside the addition of two new fighters, the November 7 update also includes some bug fixes for camera angles and EA Sports UFC 5‘s submission feature. According to the official patch notes, an issue that allowed the submissive fighter to immediately transition out of ground and pound after a diving punch or when the dominant fighter goes to postured mount after pouncing on cage knockdowns has now been rectified.

Finally, EA is updating UFC 5 with some important improvements for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Following patch 1.16, EA Sports UFC 5 will have an increased display resolution to 4k during gameplay on the PS5 Pro, as well as an increased frame rate from 30fps to 60fps during KO replays. Unfortunately, these new features won’t be available on the standard PlayStation 5, but can be checked out on the console’s new Pro model, which launches today.

UFC 309 Fight Week Challenges and New Alter Egos

  • These will go live on November 12, 2024, at 10 am PT.

New Fighters

  • Carlos Prates
    • One of two “Fighting Nerds” coming to UFC 5. Carlos made a splash in the UFC by KO’ing his opponent in the second round and since then he has rattled off two more KO victories. Prates’ fighting style is Muay Thai through and through, he uses each of his eight limbs to devastate his opponents until they can no longer stand with him and decide to shoot for a takedown but by then it’s too late, and the next thing they know they are looking up at the ref asking what happened. Precise fast striking, clean footwork and good takedown defense are what you get with Prates in UFC 5.
  • Jean Silva
    • To say Jean Silva is a wild man is an understatement, just take a look at his post-fight debut where he barks at the camera after knocking out his opponent in the first round, or the war he had in his last fight with the ultra-tough Drew Dober. “Lord” may get a little wild but he’s also well-rounded, strong, and can take a punch or two or three. Silva is also on a three-fight win streak in the UFC, a testament to his team and training with the Fighting Nerds. Powerful punches and kicks and a stellar takedown defense round out Silva’s game in UFC 5.

Gameplay Updates

  • Fixed an issue that allowed the submissive fighter to immediately transition out of ground and pound after a diving punch or when the dominant fighter goes to postured mount after pouncing on cage knockdowns.
  • Fixed the camera angle after the reversal from full guard bottom to full guard top, against the pass to half guard (single leg reversal).

  • New assorted vanity rewards added.

PlayStation 5 Pro Updates
