Key Takeaways
- Black Ops 6 will bring a new castle Zombie map midway through Season 1.
- The new map teased for Zombies is called Citadelle des Morts.
- Season 1 will introduce Directed Mode for Zombies, a new enemy type, weapons, and other content.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 announced a slew of updates coming in Season 1, including a new castle map in Zombies. The upcoming season will arrive on November 14 and bring a bevy of weapons, maps, modes, and more to Black Ops 6 as Activision aims to keep the momentum from its massively successful launch. One of the most interesting and mysterious of the incoming content is the Citadelle des Morts map, slated to come midway through the season.
Citadelle des Morts isn’t the only map coming in the Black Ops 6 Season 1 update, but it is the only one headed for the game’s Zombie mode. It will be the third playable location in Zombies — a far cry from the 16 in regular multiplayer, but a fairly high number for the Zombies series.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies – Meet the Characters
Familiar faces are returning to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode, with some new ones ready to take on endless hordes of the undead.
Call of Dutyunveiled the map alongside a host of other content on November 7. The description of Citadelle des Morts is sparse, with much of it being redacted to prevent spoilers and build hype for the arena before its release. What Activision has revealed is that its story picks up after Weaver, Maya, Carver, and Grey leave Terminus and follow clues to the abandoned castle in Europe. There, they’ll find “ghoulish horrors,” a medieval village, and something hidden, but what exactly that is and what else is in store remains a mystery for now.
Big Changes Are Headed to Black Ops 6 Zombies
A new map isn’t the only update coming to Zombies in Season 1, either. While Citadelle des Morts won’t release until mid-season, COD fans will get a new way to experience Terminus and Liberty Falls when the season starts. Directed Mode marks all the main quest objectives and caps the number of rounds at 15 to put more emphasis on the story. All side quests and S.A.M. trials will be unavailable in this mode as well. It may not be ideal for Black Ops 6 players hoping to farm essence, but it’ll help those more interested in the lore than getting the highest score possible.
Citadelle des Morts will also add a new enemy type, which players can vaguely make out in an intentionally obscured image posted in the Season 1 announcement. Other content coming to Zombies includes 18 new augments, a Perk-a-Cola, a field upgrade, an ammo mod, three GobbleGum flavors, and a few new weapons. Microsoft has previously said that Black Ops 6 was the largest COD release to date, and if these updates are any indication, it seems that Activision is intent on making it even bigger.
