Bizarre Fallout 4 Clip Shows Unexpected Way to Grab Birds

Key Takeaways

  • Fallout 4 features a bizarre way for players to interact with birds in the settlement workshop.
  • The player discovered they could grab, move, and position a crow as if it were an item in the workshop menu.
  • The bird mysteriously disappeared when scrapped or stored, adding to the strange interaction.

A Fallout 4 player has clipped the moment in which they discovered that birds can be interacted with via the Settlement Workshop. Since it was released, Fallout 4 players have discovered many strange aspects of the game, but this may be among the most bizarre.

The Fallout series has evolved alongside The Elder Scrolls franchise as two of Bethesda’s key intellectual properties. Despite being much older than Fallout 76, a portion of the fan base continues to play Fallout 4 and its DLC. Because Fallout 4 offers branching choices in its role-playing and endless replayability with mods and Settlements, some players have put hundreds of hours into the game. For players to expand their Settlements, they must have a Workshop in the area. While in the Workshop menu, one player has discovered a bizarre way that they can interact with the Boston Commonwealth’s bird population.

A Fallout fan comes across a series of impressively detailed pistol replicas from Bethesda’s popular apocalyptic RPG game franchise in a local store.

Reddit user MisterBorealis1899 recently shared a Fallout 4 clip in which they’re establishing a Settlement in Downtown Boston. The Fallout 4 Workshop user interface highlights a nearby crow as the player looks at it. Shortly after it attempts to fly away, the player grabs the bird, and they’re able to freely move it. Beyond positioning the crow, the player can rotate it as if it were an item from the Workshop menu that they chose to place in their Settlement. The player tests whether they can place the crow by first putting it on the ground, then carefully positioning it on a nearby ledge. The clip concludes with the bird strangely floating away after the player spins it in circles multiple times.

Fallout 4 Offers a Bizarre Way for Players to Interact With Birds

According to the Reddit user, the bird disappears entirely whether they scrap or store it, with the former not yielding any material. As one fan jokingly pointed out, the crow could’ve been a Fallout 4 Institute invention. The Institute uses Synths and other creations to spy on the citizens of post-apocalyptic Boston, with some fans mentioning murders of crows near Vault 111 and Diamond City as evidence. Because this gamer is establishing a Settlement in the middle of the city, they appear to be using Fallout 4‘s Build Anywhere mod. While this mod could affect other aspects of the game, the ability to interact with birds using the Workshop seems to work in the vanilla version of the game.

As Bethesda is largely done fixing the bugs since Fallout 4‘s big next-gen updates, it’s unlikely that this bird interaction will be patched out. Because some players make pre-war-inspired Settlements, making Crows part of their bases could add to the aesthetic.
