Shadow the Hedgehog has been a fan favorite in the Sonic series ever since he made his debut in Sonic Adventure 2, even though the brooding hedgehog was a villain when introduced and has kind of remained that way ever since. A creation of the evil Robotnik, Shadow is considered the Ultimate Lifeform, his corrupted origins keeping him torn between hero and villain. Whether you love him for his red and black color scheme, or because he’s stand-offish with an edge, there’s no doubting Shadow brings a cool factor to Sonic that none of the other characters too. Sorry Knuckles, no offense.
Despite Shadow’s immediate popularity when first introduced, Sega hasn’t really given him the attention he deserves since then. That was until this year when it has the introduction of Shadow into Sonic’s movies to consider. That’s why 2024 has been dubbed the Year Of Shadow, and it’s also why there has been an influx of Shadow merch released throughout the year. Perfect for those of you looking for gifts for the Shadow fans in your life, something there will likely be more of once he makes his cinematic debut.
Best Shadow The Hedgehog Merch And Gifts
Shadow Finally Has Another Game Of His Own, Kind Of
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a double package of a remastered version of the 2011 title Sonic Generations, alongside an all-new campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog and both 2D and 3D levels.
Other than his appearance in Sonic 3, the biggest outing for Shadow in 2024, and the biggest since he starred in his own game 20 years ago, was in Sonic x Shadow Generations. A remaster of a classic Sonic game, but more importantly, at least when it comes to buying it as a gift for a Shadow fan, the addition of a whole campaign with Shadow as its star.
While Sonic Generations is great, it’s the inclusion of the new Shadow levels that really make this game excel. Not only is this a great gift for Shadow fans who haven’t picked up the game already, but it’s the perfect way to introduce new Sonic fans who might not be all that familiar with Shadow ready for when he shows up on the big screen in December.
Loungefly Shadow the Hedgehog Mini Backpack
Who Knew Shadow Would Look So Good As A Backpack?
Shadow has been turned into a mini backpack for the Year of Shadow. The officially licensed backpack is exclusively available at GameStop, and there’s a matching wallet sold separately.
- High-end officially licensed Loungefly product
- Matching wallet also available
- Expensive due to it being an official Loungefly backpack
You’ve probably seen Loungefly’s extensive work with Disney, turning its iconic characters into high-end backpacks, but did you know the Funko brand has done the same for Sega too? Well, just Sonic rather than Sega as a whole, although just imagine how good Kiryu would look as a backpack – something to think about, Loungefly.

Loungefly Reveals GameStop Exclusive Sonic Backpack And Wallet With Changing Chao
Loungefly has released a new Sonic range just in time for the launch of Sonic x Shadow Generations.
Enough about Yakuza and back to the hedgehog of the hour, Shadow. During the Year Of Shadow, Loungefly created a mini backpack based on his design, and the GameStop exclusive would make the perfect gift for anyone who loves the Sonic anti-hero. If you really want to spoil whoever this backpack is for, why not stuff the Shadow Squishmallow below inside of it? If anyone buying me a gift this Christmas is reading this, jot that down.
Shadow Space Colony ARK PDP Realmz Controller
Guys, Shadow’s Trapped In A Big Tube Thing Again
Shadow has joined other Sonic characters in PDP’s Realmz collection. Like other controllers in the range, the Nintendo Switch Shadow option includes a tiny Shadow action figure trapped on the handle. The rest of the controller’s design is themed after the hedgehog with an image of the space station on which he was created and its color scheme matching the hedgehog’s.
- Made by PDP, a leading game accessories company
- Part of a wider range of Sonic figure controllers
- Not as durable as other more expensive options
Unless you’ve got something like the DualSense up your sleeve, it’s hard to make a controller truly unique in 2024. The gaming world has settled on the ideal shape, more or less, so if a company is going to come up with something no one has seen before, it’s going to have to get a little weird with it. That’s where PDP’s Realmz range comes in.
Realmz controllers were first introduced in 2023 and their gimmick is that they each have a little toy inside of them, just don’t try and remove it from its clear plastic prison. There are a few Sonic options and Shadow joined the range to celebrate the release of the aforementioned Sonic x Shadow Generations. The only downside is unlike other Realmz controllers, the Shadow option is only available in wireless and for Nintendo Switch.
Shadow’s Escape Sonic Lego Set
Shadow’s First Foray Into Lego
Shadow may be escaping, but the lucky owner of this Lego set will be doing the opposite, spending hours of fun building this elaborate scene from the Sonic universe. Featuring a Shadow, motorcycle, and Rhinobot minifigures, imaginations are sure to run wild .
- Price point is a steal
- Lots of minifigures and set-pieces for dynamic scenes and displays
- No allies or Robotnik included
Reasonably priced and a fitting, fleeting showcase for Shadow the Hedgehog, there’s lots to love about this Lego set. No, there are no allies like Sonic or Tails included, but Shadow’s always been kind of a loner so the set really fits the brief. I’m sure he’s more than capable of handling the Lego Rhinobot he’s faced with alone.
I’ve not even got to the best part of Shadow’s first Lego set yet – the motorcycle. Shadow’s Dark Rider motorcycle, to be exact. Whether displayed on a shelf or used in epic play battles, this Lego set is sure to provide hours of entertainment even after you’ve finished building. That is the only downside really, that the set isn’t bigger. There’s more Shadow Lego to look forward to in 2025, though.
Shadow The Hedgehog Squishmallow
Shadow Can Be Cute Too, It Turns Out
The darkest, most intense character in the Sonic canon gets the Squishmallow treatment, transformed here into a perfect, circular cuddly plush by the brand leader in such collectibles.
- Details like distinct spikes and pointy ears faithfully capture Shadow’s iconic design
- Soft plush depiction doesn’t force design to downplay Shadow’s
- Fans may prefer a more traditional depiction a la an action figure
For fans of soft stuff who still adore an edgy anti-hero, the Shadow the Hedgehog Squishmallow is a must-have. Not only does the plush perfectly capture Shadow’s iconic look via bold red and black colors but it manages to maintain Shadow’s overall feel despite trading in the hedgehog’s signature scowl for a friendly Squishmallow smile.
It’s the best of both worlds: a faithful representation of a beloved character that’s also the perfect addition to someone’s Sonic plush collection. Whether you’re a hardcore Sonic fan or just looking for a unique and fun gift, the Shadow the Hedgehog Squishmallow is an excellent choice that adds a playful yet fierce vibe to any room.
Shadow And Super Shadow Funko Pop! Two-Pack
I’m Seeing Double, And I Like It
The Shadow and Super Shadow Funko Pop! Two-Pack captures the dynamic essence of two separate iterations of the fan-favorite hedehog. With vibrant details and dynamic poses, this two-pack of Funkos is a must-have for fans.
- Funko Pop! design style adds a playful twist to Shadow’s standard look
- The onyl thing better than one Shadow is two
- And the only thing better than two Shadows is if one of them is Super
Funko Pops are among the most popular collectibles across a variety of fandoms, and Shadow fans were given a big reason to be a part of that this year. They didn’t only get one new Shadow Funko Pop, they got two, combined for the ultimate two-pack containing Shadow and Super Shadow.
Fueled by Chaos Emeralds and equipped with enhanced abilities, Super Shadow makes for an almighty complement to his more familiar counterpart, his golden aura adding some extra pop to this figure’s design. A two-pack containing Shadow with another character would have been nice, but as mentioned above, Shadow doesn’t tend to play well with others. Being paired with an alternate version of himself makes perfect sense.
