A lot of rumours have been swirling about the next iteration of the Nintendo Switch. From the name, to its features, and even what kind of games it will play, we’ve received no official details, except that it’s in the works and we’ll probably hear about it officially next year.
However, it seems that Nintendo has changed its mind and has dropped a major detail about the upcoming console. It seems that the “Switch 2” will be backwards compatible, meaning you’ll be able to play current Switch games on the next-gen console.
A Switch To The Past
This information has come directly from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, who announced this feature on the company’s official Twitter account.
“This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch,” says the Tweet. “Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”
