Warhorse Studios confirms that the upcoming Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is not launching with Denuvo. Players were assuming that the digital rights management (DRM) tool was going to appear in the medieval RPG, but now the developer has put those concerns to rest. Denuvo has remained controversial for a few years, but Warhorse says there was some “misalignment” and “misinformation” around its inclusion in KCD2.
With the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 release date pushed back into 2025, we’ve got to wait a little longer for the immersive medieval RPG. If you were worried you’d be spending that time concerned that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has Denuvo, worry no longer, as Warhorse has now confirmed on stream that it will not be in the game.
“There was some misalignment, there was some misinformation, but at the end of the day there won’t be any Denuvo at all [in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2],” Warhorse Studios global PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling explains. “With that, I would like you to close the case already. Stop [writing] under every post we do asking ‘Is Denuvo in the game?’
“It’s not, we never announced it. [There was] a bit of a misunderstanding. That is something you should really remember, as long as Warhorse doesn’t announce anything it’s not true,” they conclude (via DSOGaming).
Stolz-Zwilling is referring to how players initially believed that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 would, in fact, feature Denuvo anti-tamper technology. Plaion, the parent company of KCD2 developer Warhorse and publisher Deep Silver, appeared to send an email confirming that the DRM tech would be present in the game.
Warhorse isn’t the only studio publicly announcing Denuvo plans ahead of time this year, as Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive met DRM concerns with a simple “no.” Payday 3 studio Starbreeze also removed the technology right before launch, while Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada took a firm stance as well.
Denuvo and other similar DRM are designed to prevent piracy and protect a game’s code, but have gained a negative reputation from players over the last few years. Many players are concerned that the software worsens a game’s performance, making its inclusion in any new triple-A releases a hot topic.
