Where To Find Mayor Lewis’ Lucky Purple Shorts in Stardew Valley
On Summer 3, Mayor Lewis sends a letter to the farmer asking them to find his lost purple shorts and return them to him privately. You can find his missing shorts in a rather unexpected place: Marnie’s bedroom. This hints at a secret relationship between the kind-hearted animal lover and the town’s mayor. To enter Marnie’s bedroom, you need to have two friendship hearts with her in Stardew Valley.
The reasons behind why Mayor Lewis and Marnie choose to keep the relationship private remain a mystery. Whatever the reasons, the farmer now holds the power to expose their secret romance. You can choose to return the shorts to Mayor Lewis for a reward of 750 Gold and one friendship heart or use them to embarrass him.
How To Embarrass Mayor Lewis With His Purple Shorts
Here are a few interesting ways you can embarrass Mayor Lewis using his lucky purple shorts:
Give The Shorts to Marnie
One of the first mischievous things you can do with purple shorts is to give them to Marnie. Her reaction is priceless; she’ll let out a startled “Gah!” and stammer nervously, insisting she has no clue what the shorts are. Marnie’s awkward reaction is a testament to her and Lewis’ secret relationship. Fortunately, Marnie doesn’t take the shorts, meaning you can continue your quest to embarrass the mayor.
Add The Shorts To The Luau Festival Soup
Lewis’ missing purple shorts quest is triggered in Summer, around the same time as the Summer Luau Festival in Stardew Valley. This annual event, attended by the entire town and the Governor, is the perfect opportunity to prank Lewis. Since Lewis is desperate to impress the Governor, this prank becomes even more hilarious.
The main attraction at the Luau Festival is a communal potluck, where all the villagers, including the farmer, add an ingredient to the soup. To embarrass Mayor Lewis, you can simply add his lucky purple shorts to the soup. Doing so will get a unique reaction out of the Governor and Lewis.
Upon tasting the soup, the governor comments that it is a bit tangy, but the flavor is quite good. He then pulls the infamous purple shorts from his bowl, leaving Mayor Lewis and Marnie stunned. The Governor, visibly disgusted, declares it the most insulting act of his life and rushes away. The Mayor is beyond embarrassed that his private item was used for this prank, but fortunately, you don’t get caught.
Display The Shorts At The Fair Grange
If that doesn’t sound good enough, you can save the purple shorts till Fall, when the annual Stardew Valley Fair takes place. The highlight of this event is the Fair Grange Display, where you can showcase nine of your best items, ranging from high-quality produce and gems to artisan goods and crops. You can take this opportunity to display Mayor Lewis’ purple shorts for the whole town to see.
After seeing his shorts at the Fair Grange Display, Mayor Lewis becomes visibly upset and offers you 750 Star Tokens to keep the incident quiet. Marnie playfully refers to the shorts as “purple lettuce”, subtly acknowledging your prank.
Wear The Shorts Yourself
Another way to embarrass Mayor Lewis is by wearing his purple shorts yourself. While the shorts can’t be worn directly, you can combine them with a gold bar using a Sewing Machine. This creates a wearable version of the shorts which players can equip and take a stroll around Pelican Town.
If Lewis catches the player wearing his purple shorts, he’ll be visibly surprised and annoyed. Marnie, however, would react with a giggle, showing a more playful attitude towards the situation. Interestingly, no other villager in Stardew Valley seems to notice or care about the shorts, meaning it’s a harmless way to embarrass the mayor. After this, you can simply return the shorts and claim the 750 gold reward for completing the quest.
How To Get Another Pair Of Mayor Lewis’ Purple Shorts
Stardew Valley‘s 1.6 update added a new, bizarre twist to Mayor Lewis’s Shorts saga. By befriending Mayor Lewis in Stardew Valley and placing a staircase in his bedroom, you can unlock a secret basement. Here, you’ll have to navigate through a maze of barrels till you reach a hidden room. Inside this room, you can find another pair of the Mayor’s lucky purple shorts.
As soon as you pick up the shorts from the floor, a flying pair of shorts will start attacking you. Make sure to bring some food or healing items so you don’t lose the battle. You can repeat this daily challenge to collect as many pairs of lucky shorts as you want.
