Key Takeaways
- Fortnite is rumored to be getting its OG map back this December.
- Reliable leakers have claimed the game’s original map will be back and that this time, it will be here to stay.
- If accurate, the original map will also run through Fortnite’s first ten seasons and exclusively include loot from Chapter 1.
It has been almost exactly one year since Epic made one of the most popular Fortnite decisions in the game’s history – bringing back the live service title’s very first map. The only mistake the studio made was taking it away again, and on the first anniversary of the OG map’s return, it may well have plans to go back and fix that mistake.
Fortnite’s Remix season kicked off over the weekend. Similar to 2023’s OG season, Remix has brought back elements from Fortnite’s past. It’s not a complete return like it was last year though, and the past weapons and elements making their triumphant returns are all from Chapter 2. Epic hasn’t forgotten players want the original map back though, and according to two of Fortnite’s biggest and most reliable leakers, those wishes will be granted this December.

Both Hypex and Shiina have claimed an anonymous source has verified Fortnite’s OG map will return in December. Not only that, but according to that reliable source, the map will be back permanently, something many people started asking for the second they stepped foot on it again in 2023.

If this information is correct, then Fortnite Chapter 1’s return will be more than just the game’s first map coming back. Shiina and Hypex have also been told that the OG map’s mode will cycle through the game’s first ten seasons again, letting you relive them, or for some who haven’t been around from the very beginning play through them for the first time. The seasons will each be one month long which means if the first one starts in December, Chapter 1’s return will run until at least September 2025.
As well as the original map and the chance to relive Fortnite’s first ten seasons, it’s also believed that only the loot that could be found in-game at the time will be available which will really make the mode feel like the original Fortnite if true. You will still be able to slide and mantle, of course, and there will be Build and Zero Build options. No need to go back to worrying about a tower appearing around the player you fired one bullet at if you have become accustomed to Zero Build like me.
A reminder that for the time being, this hasn’t been officially revealed or even confirmed. It comes from reliable leakers, and I’m sure the information is solid, but that doesn’t mean plans can’t change. If everything is correct and all goes to plan, Epic is expected to announce a mode that will let players permanently return to Fortnite’s first chapter either during Remix’s Finale on November 30, or at The Game Awards on December 13.
Starting life as a tower defense game, Fortnite has become one of the biggest video games out there. Its battle royale mode dominates popular culture, featuring concerts by megastar musicians and crossovers with just about every brand imaginable, from Marvel to the NFL.
