It’s been a long-held fan theory that the voice actress behind Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was performed by the same woman who provided the voice of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. She was only credited as Suzetta Miñet, an actress who had no other credits under that name. But two decades later, with the impending release of the MGS 3 remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Jodi Benson has come forward as the voice of Eva.
Benson is featured in the newest installment of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series opposite her Naked Snake co-star, David Hayter. In the video, Benson revealed why she took on an alias to play such a departure from her wholesome role as Ariel.
“The various projects that I am affiliated with in my career are sort of family-based, children-based,” said Benson. “It was actually Kris Zimmerman Salter–our [voice] director–she kind of sat down with me and she was like, ‘Maybe we need to change your name.'”
As related by Benson, Slater asked Benson what the name of her dog was when she was a child, and the canine was called Suzette Monet. Slater suggested using the same first name for Benson’s pseudonym in the game, while modifying the last name to Miñet.
Benson and Hayter also shared the story of how they recorded Eva and Snake’s romantic scenes in the game. Since they recorded their roles separately, their kissing scenes were performed by their lips against their own hands. All of their voice work from MGS 3 is being retained in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, including the kissing sounds.
Konami hasn’t set a date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but the game is expected to be released in 2025. Unfortunately, a second remake of the original Metal Gear Solid doesn’t appear to be in the cards. Beyond the new version of Snake Eater, the only other MGS project on the horizon is the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which also doesn’t have a date yet.
