1 Learn Each Board Before Playing

3 Don’t Be Afraid To Spend At Every Shop

When you pass by a Koopa Shop in Super Mario Party Jamboree, you will be able to purchase one of the items on sale for Gold. Some items aren’t very useful, but the Custom Dice Blocks, Warp Pipes, Chomp Call, Golden Pipe, and special Mario Party board items are all worth picking up at any chance you get.

In Pro Mode, these items are limited, so purchase them faster than your opponents to lock them out of some very strong boosts and effects.

Keep an eye out for the Item Bag – it fills your inventory with random Items, which can be worth way more than the cost.

4 Use Board Features To Trap Opponents

Most every board has some kind of feature that can be influenced by players’ actions in some way. These unique features tend to alter the basic layout of the map, restrict players’ movement between zones, or otherwise alter the board in a significant way – oftentimes to other players’ detriment.

• For example, on Goomba Lagoon, you can change the tide with a cheap item and trap your opponents on a small island for several full rounds.
• On the Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party board, you can move Wiggler in the middle with a similar item (or anger Wiggler and change the spaces on its back to negative spaces).
• In Western Land, the Train can run over and launched back to the start if opponents if they are on the tracks when it moves from station to station.

5 Don’t Re-Route To Get Jamboree Buddies

You Can Get Buddies Without Landing On Them

Jamboree Buddies are a new mechanic in Super Mario Party Jamboree that gives players a companion for a few rounds. Each companion has a unique bonus effect, and when they are following you, you are able to purchase two Stars at once (for 40 Coins).

But the thing is, you don’t get a Jamboree Buddy by being the first to get to the spot – Jamboree Buddies will instead give the player who reached them an advantage in a minigame challenge for all players, and the winner gets the Jamboree Buddy no matter where they are on the map.

Don’t go out of your way to get Jamboree Buddies, because if someone else goes for them, you’ll get a chance to recruit them to your side just the same.

6 Avoid Mashing Buttons, Slide Over Them Instead

Win Button Mashing Minigames Faster With Less Strain

There are quite a few Super Mario Party Jamboree minigames that encourage players to mash a specific button faster than their opponents. In these minigames, you can actually mash faster by sliding your thumb over the button from side to side rather than pressing into it.

Holding your Joycon, rub your thumb side to side over the required input, letting the button rise slightly before sliding back over it the other way (a bit like the universal symbol for money). You can also make a crab claw shape with your hand, like a speedrunner, and rapidly rotate your wrist to quickly press the button without bending your thumb at all.

7 Target The 1st Place Player In Minigames…

Level The Playing Field, Even If They Are Your Teammate

If another player is far in the lead in terms of Coins, it’s always a good idea to team up and take them down a peg. If you’re lucky, the 1st place player may be brought into a 1v3 minigame, wherein you and your teammates can all team up naturally. If you are in a 2v2 match and are teamed with the 1st place player, consider throwing the match to even the playing field a bit.

It’s a little trickier in Free For All minigames, but even here you can mess with other opponents a lot of the time. Push the 1st place player off of a cliff in a running minigame, target them over others in battle minigames, and disrupt them in any way you can using Items and other features to knock them off the pedestal.

8 …But Don’t Make Yourself A Target For Others

Stay Under The Radar At First To Avoid Being Targeted

While targeting the 1st place player is a good way to even the playing field, you don’t want to be too antagonistic. If you were to Steal a Star from another player, for example, your reputation would be tarnished and just about everyone would do everything in their power to get back at you.

In general, it’s best to save the really game-changing special events like this until the latter half of the match, when your opponents can’t do much to stop you. Until then, try to stay under the radar to avoid being targeted yourself.

9 Practice As Much As You Can Before Each Minigame

You Might Annoy Others, But You’ll Be Ready

In Super Mario Party Jamboree every minigame is preceded by a screen that details the minigame and its controls, accompanied by a window with a smaller, practice version of that minigame. Unlike some previous Mario Party games, Super Mario Party Jamboree lets you control your character and play the full minigame in this practice window.

The minigame won’t start until everyone confirms that they are Ready, so you can get in as much practice as you like before the real thing.
