These Mythical Zoan Fruits Would Be Perfect For Loki

These Mythical Zoan Fruits Would Be Perfect For Loki

Key Takeaways

  • Loki may have the Fenrir fruit, transforming into a giant wolf connected to Norse mythology.
  • Alternatively, Loki could have the Jormungandr fruit, linked to the World Serpant of Norse lore.
  • The most likely theory is Loki having the Elbaf God fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Elbaf.

Loki is One Piece’s most recently introduced character and is one who has taken the entire fandom by storm due to his mysterious backstory and impeccable design. His official introduction into the series after many teases over the years was met with unanimous praise, with many fans already setting up very high expectations of him in terms of his character motivations. The biggest question, however, has to do with his Devil Fruit.

It was stated in Chapter 1130 that the Elbaf royal family possessed a legendary Devil Fruit that had been passed down their generations and, in order to take it for himself, Loki killed his father. The biggest question on everyone’s mind has been what could such a Devil Fruit possibly be, considering it’s the only one other than Luffy’s own to have ever been called legendary in One Piece. Since many think it may be a Mythical Zoan, let’s take a look at the most likely models it may be.

The Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Fenrir

The Fenrir Fruit

The prevailing theory on the nature of Loki’s fruit claims that it is likely the Mythical Zoan fruit that allows him to transform into a giant wolf, namely Fenrir from Norse mythology. There are many reasons for this, mainly the fact that in Norse mythology, Fenrir is one of Loki’s children, so a connection has already been set up there, as well as the fact that Fenrir is also chained up at a low point in the world, almost the same as how Loki is also chained up at the bottom of Elbaf, surrounded by many other giant wolves and growling.

When he was born, they called him the “Accursed Prince”.

In Norse mythology, it is stated that when Ragnarok happens, Fenrir will play one of the most important roles in it when he faces off against Odin and kills him, perhaps even pointing towards something that Oda may adopt into the Elbaf arc. These many connections that One Piece’s Loki has to Fenrir specifically may just hint at the possible abilities of this Devil Fruit.

The Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Jormungandr

The Jormungandr Fruit

Another very likely possibility from Norse mythology is the World Serpent itself; Jormungandr. Just like Fenrir, Jormungandr is also a child of Loki from the source material, having multiple connections to One Piece’s Loki besides that fact. One such direct connection is when Loki states to Luffy that his goal is to bring an end to the world itself, which connects to Jormungandr since the act of uncoiling itself from around the Earth will bring about its destruction during the events of Ragnarok.

If Loki ever does escape, it’ll be the end of everything!

The possibility of Jormungandr also connects to another possible serpent from Norse mythology, which is Nidhogg, a dragon who lives at the base of Yggdrasil (the World Tree) and gnaws at it in the hopes of destroying it. The connections it has with Loki are pretty clear as well, since Loki is also at the tree’s base and wants to destroy everything. However, Jormungandr seems the more likely option out of the two.

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Surtr

The Surtr Fruit

Of all these theories about Loki’s Devil Fruit ability, none of them relate to a ‘Sun God’, despite that being the main thing that Loki identifies himself with. However, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Surtr falls into that category somewhat due to his fire powers connecting him to the sun, as well as the fact that in Norse mythology, Surtr is the fire giant who will destroy Asgard when Ragnarok comes, which goes perfectly in line with Loki’s plan.

I am the Sun God who will bring about the end of the world!

Moreover, in Norse mythology, Surtr has a gigantic and legendary blade that is exceptionally powerful, which he will drive into the world itself to destroy. Seeing as how there is a massive sword sticking out of the Yggdrasil tree on Elbaf, it’s very likely that this blade will be used by Loki if he actually does have the Surtr fruit.

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Elbaf

The Elbaf God Fruit

After looking at every one of these options and weighing the likelihood of Loki possessing any one of these fruits, chances are that the true identity of his Devil Fruit is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Elbaf. Back in the Little Garden arc, Dorry and Brogy mention that the country of Elbaf owes its name to the patron deity of the giants who they hold in higher regard than even Sun God Nika, known as Elbaf the War God. The theory states that Loki’s Mythical Zoan will let him transform into this fabled God of War.

When there’s a dispute and neither side will yield, the God of Elbaf decides the matter.

This is the most probable option for many reasons, such as the destructive potential of such a fruit as well as the importance of it being so great that only the ruling family of Elbaf could possibly have this power. The nature of such a fruit could only be properly fleshed out by Oda himself, but it would make sense for the only Devil Fruit to stand a chance against Luffy’s Nika fruit to be yet another overpowered God Fruit with the power to destroy entire islands on a whim. The gigantic sword on Elbaf likely belonged to this War God as well.
