The Most Underrated Quirks In My Hero Academia
One of the best parts of the My Hero Academia universe is seeing all the unique quirks and their various applications. While a lot of these quirks do have time in the spotlight, there are so many packed into the action that some are going to naturally fall by the wayside. But that doesn’t mean that the quirks we don’t see the full range of don’t have the potential to be just as impressive as the ones we do.

Arguments could probably be made that many of the quirks we see in the show and manga would be very different depending on the wielder, situation, and opponent. We see this discussed around characters like Mirio. But these are some with broadly applicable uses or a power scale that weren’t explored in the course of the plot.
9
Confession
Shin Nemoto
While this quirk, which compels a person to answer a question honestly, isn’t underrated for combat prowess, there’s a good reason that Overhaul kept him nearby. Much like Shinso’s mind control quirk, confession has a lot of practical uses for information gathering, especially when it comes to unwilling participants. Information that can then be used in strategy.
Confession would be an invaluable quirk for the police force we see in the anime, cutting out much of the guesswork of interrogation. It was probably an extremely useful quirk in Overhaul’s domination.

Softening
Juzo Honenuki
Honenuki cannot only change the composition of anything he touches (making it softer) but also to swim inside of it the way Mirio uses his permeation quirk. With how creatively Mirio has used his quirk, Honenuki has the potential to reach greater heights than he is currently.
Especially if he could pinpoint it to target support items, costume pieces, and weapons. Even if he doesn’t, his quirk could impact anyone who needs to touch any surface, which is most other fighters.
7
Electricity
Denki Kaminari
While Denki Kaminari is the most prominent user of the electricity quirk, the quirk itself is underrated in the course of the series. Electricity is not only a very powerful force of nature, but it powers our society.

While you can argue that it’s Denki’s extreme power that nerfs him in fights (as he can easily kill his opponents but doesn’t want to), the quirk also has unexplored possibilities involving the electric infrastructure of the world around him. But between blackouts and literal bolts of lightning, this quirk should be a lot stronger than represented.
6
Comic
Manga Fukidashi
Fukidashi’s quirk, comic, allows him to create onomatopoeia in the real world with the effect of the word. So, for example, if he says boing, those letters will be bouncy. This allows him to do almost anything he can think of as well as manipulate and control the landscape and atmosphere with his manifested letters.
The only downside? He might have a sore throat, and if that reminds you of a certain, powerful jujutsu sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, then you have an idea as to how where he could start to effectively use this quirk already.
5
Anivoice
Koji Koda
Koda mainly uses his ability to control animals to do rescues, summoning the local wildlife to evacuate people and then saving their pets by directly commanding them. The downsides of the ability are that the animals he controls have to be within range of his voice, and if he can’t speak, he can’t use it.
But what makes this quirk truly underrated isn’t any of that, it’s that it works on insects, too. Since the majority of living things on this planet are insects, the quirk has a lot of unused potential when it comes to overwhelming enemies with creepy crawlers. Imagine being on the other side of a wave of cockroaches.
4
Earth Flow
Ryuko Tsuchikawa
One of the members of the Wild, Wild Pussycats, Tsuchikawa has the most powerful quirk of the four. She can control the earth, but to an even greater degree than earth bending brings to mind. We see this when she creates literal monsters for Class 1A to get past, and again when she explodes the ground to try and control Shigaraki’s decay.
These examples give us a taste of a quirk that would be effective anywhere on land, and that has a very impressive versatility and range. It isn’t the quirk that AFO steals, but it’s probably one anyone concerned with power would have.
3
IQ
Saiko Intelli
In a world where strategy reigns supreme, Intelli’s IQ quirk could be extremely useful to heroes. After seeing the way control rooms were set up during the encounters with the LOV, Intelli could have been an asset that made a real difference in the war effort.
We see how effective an intellectual quirk can be when Nezu uses his in testing the students of Class 1A. The only catch is that she needs to drink tea before she can use her quirk, but since tea is the most popular drink there is globally, that’s a pretty easy fix.
2
Double
Jin Bubaigawara
The quirk double, which allows Jin to almost infinitely clone not just himself but other people, is intentionally shown to be underused in the plot of the show. Other characters, like Hawks, comment on how creatively this quirk could be used, especially since it can create doubles that can still use the original’s quirk.
Jin, in the course of the show, never uses his quirk to the impact he could, coming the closest during the My Villain Academia arc. Toga also gives a taste of the wave of clones, but even her recreation of it isn’t what it could have been if someone else had the same ability.
1
Black Hole
Anan Kurose
Kurose, also known as Thirteen, has a quirk so powerful she can’t use it on others at all. This is because it has the power to create actual black holes. Black holes that are so powerful, that anything inside will be turned to dust.
We only see her using this immensely powerful ability a few times throughout the story, but it has the potential to cause devastation on the level of Shigaraki. With a quirk of this strength, it’s a good thing she’s chosen to help people and not to become a villain.
