The source of the rumor is Biohazard Declassified, citing an alleged playtester who claims to have played Resident Evil 9. If the leaks are to be believed, Resident Evil 9‘s main characters will apparently be Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine, investigating an island tied to Eveline and the Megamycete. Other returning characters are said to include Chris Redfield and Barry Burton in non-playable capacities.

Enemies are said to include “evolved zombies” similar to Resident Evil 4‘s Ganados, a “stalker” enemy that stalks Leon (like Nemesis or Mr. X), and a Goatman enemy that Jill will have to fight. The main villain in the game is said to be “Mr. Simon.”

Now, before fans put too much stock into these leaks, it’s best to keep in mind that there is no way of verifying this information until Capcom itself decides to pull the curtain back on Resident Evil 9. There have been plenty of accurate Resident Evil series leaks over the years, but there have also been many leaks and rumors that have never come to fruition. As always, fans should keep their expectations in check.

Luckily, it’s possible fans will learn the truth about Resident Evil 9 sooner rather than later. Rumors persist that a possible Resident Evil 9 reveal will happen at The Game Awards 2024, with the game then released in the second half of 2025.
