A movie franchise centered around an all-powerful alien hunter with an arsenal of Sci-Fi gadgets sounds tailor-made for video game adaptations, but for some mysterious reason, Predator games have never fared too well. While there have been some great Alien Vs. Predator games over the years, most of Predator’s solo video game outings have been panned by critics and fans alike, such as the PS2’s Predator: Concrete Jungle and the most recent example, Predator: Hunting Grounds.
Back in April 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment published the IllFonic-developed Predator: Hunting Grounds exclusively for PS4 and PC. Predator: Hunting Grounds had an infamously disappointing launch, with critics condemning the game’s dated visuals, one-sided gameplay, and repetitive loop. But while Hunting Grounds was a bit of a failure, that shouldn’t mean that PlayStation is put off from making another Predator game forever, and 2025 could be the perfect time to try again.

PlayStation Has The Perfect Excuse to Try Again with Predator in 2025
2025 Could Be a Huge Year for Predator
Back in August 2022, the Predator franchise made its long-awaited return to popularity with Prey. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and co-written by Patrick Aison, Prey sees a young Comanche warrior facing off against a Predator in 1719. Prey quickly became a critical success, currently sitting at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 71% on Metacritic.
In February of this year, another Dan Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison Predator project was confirmed to be in production. Currently titled Predator: Badlands, the Elle Fanning-starring movie is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. But Predator: Badlands won’t be the only Predator project releasing in 2025.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell confirmed that a second Predator project is set for release in 2025, also directed by Dan Trachtenberg. In the interview, Asbell states that he can’t give any details about this second Trachtenberg-led Predator project, but it came from a meeting following the release of Prey in 2022, where Trachtenberg was asked what he wanted to do next with the Predator franchise and two of his ideas were greenlit.
PlayStation Could Make 2025 an Even Bigger Year for Predator
Predator: Hunting Grounds may have been critically panned upon its 2020 launch, but it has managed to gain a bit of a cult following over the last four years, so much so that the game finally came to Xbox last month. It’s clear that there’s still a strong desire from fans to see a great Predator video game adaptation, and next year might be the perfect time for PlayStation to try its hand once more.
The Predator franchise still has so much potential in the video game space, it just needs to target the right audience. Rather than try to deliver an asymmetrical multiplayer game, PlayStation might have found more success with Predator if it published a single-player, narrative-driven game set in the beloved Sci-Fi horror universe. It’s not too late for PlayStation to try and deliver upon that potential, and releasing a new Predator game in 2025 could be a smart business decision, using the hype of the upcoming movies to boost its own success.
