One Piece Author Reveals Cross Guild’s Bounty System

One Piece Author Reveals Cross Guild's Bounty System

Key Takeaways

  • The Cross Guild created a bounty system targeting Marines, creating chaos & making them more vulnerable.
  • Fleet Admiral has highest bounty, followed by Admirals, with exceptions like Garp & Koby allocated higher bounties.
  • The Cross Guild’s effective bounty system has led to Marine casualties, putting them at risk and potentially leading to war.

The Cross Guild has emerged as one of the biggest organizations in the One Piece world. Crocodile and Mihawk came up with the idea for the organization, but due to some rather comical circumstances, the entire world came under the impression that it was Buggy’s idea. The World Government wasted no time naming Buggy as one of the Yonko and putting a bounty of over 3 billion berries on his idea.

The Cross Guild has elite fighters within its ranks, but its bounty system is the main reason the world fears the organization. In a recent Q&A session, Eiichiro Oda sat down and explained how the Cross Guild’s bounty system works.

The Cross Guild’s Bounty System

How The Organization Caused Problems For The Marines

The Cross Guild has developed a bounty system that targets Marines. They place bounties on notable Marines, which makes them a target for criminals and civilians. According to Eiichiro Oda, the purpose of Cross Guild’s bounty system is to cause chaos for the Marines. The lives of the Marines come under threat, so they have to be extra careful. The organization has put a system in place that gives bounties based on a Marine’s strength, and it is more or less an accurate representation.

  • Fleet Admiral: 5 Crowns or 5 Billion Berries
  • Admirals: 3 Crowns or 3 Billion Berries
  • Vice Admirals: 5 Stars or 500 Million Berries
  • Rear Admirals: 2 Stars or 200 Million Berries
  • Commodores: 1 Star or 100 Million Berries
  • Captains: 1 Star or 100 Million Berries
  • Field Officers: Up to 100 Million Berries
  • Junior Officers: 100 Thousand Berries

The Fleet Admiral having the highest bounty makes total sense. Not only is he the leader of the Marines, but he is arguably the strongest member within the organization. Just below the Fleet Admiral are the three Admirals, and they are considered the greatest weapon of the Marines. Each Admiral has insane abilities, which allow them to take down the most sinister criminals. The Admirals are followed by the Vice Admirals and Rear Admirals. The other ranks usually don’t have any elite fighters, but the Cross Guild does keep an eye out for exceptions and assigns bounties accordingly.

Garp And Koby Are The Exceptions

Monkey D. Garp bounty

Monkey D. Garp and Koby have been confirmed as the two exceptions to the Cross Guild’s ranking system. Garp is a Vice Admiral, so in theory, his bounty should be 500 million berries. However, the Cross Guild is aware of Garp’s monstrous strength. So, they have allocated a bounty of 3 Crowns or 3 billion berries to him. Garp is a living legend who has fought against the likes of Gol D. Roger, Shiki, Whitebeard, Rocks D. Xebec, etc. He is also the only Marine to have ever cornered the Pirate King in a fight. Due to his involvement in the God Valley incident, Garp came to be known as the Hero of the Marines, so his high bounty is absolutely justified. One could argue that his bounty would be the same as an Admiral’s if Garp was younger.

Koby joined the Marines as a timid person who was unable to stand his ground. However, he has grown into an excellent fighter. Currently, Koby holds the rank of Captain. Normally, Marines at this rank are given a bounty of 100 million berries. But the Cross Guild is aware of his accomplishments, which is why Koby has a 500 million beri bounty. Koby has access to two types of Haki and can use them at a high level. He also holds the title of “Hero”, given to him after the Rocky Port incident.

How Effective Is The Cross Guild Bounty System?

The Cross Guild’s bounty system has already proven its effectiveness. The first Marine to fall prey to it was none other than Vice Admiral T-Bone. He was a noble man who always put others’ feelings before his own. Even when he was attacked by the commoner, it is likely that T-Bone did not stop him because he was aware of his condition. T-Bone’s death shocked the Marines, and they knew it was foolish to overlook the Cross Guild.

The Cross Guild’s new system will affect more Marines, many of whom will end up losing their lives. This puts the Marines at a significantly increased risk, and they can no longer afford to roam freely. The Cross Guild removed the advantage that the Marines had over the pirates in one swift move. Sengoku and the other higher-ups are aware of Cross Guild’s threat, so it might not be long before they declare war against them.

What Is Happening At Cross Guild?

As previously stated, Dracule Mihawk and Crocodile are the actual leaders of the Cross Guild, and they just want to enjoy their lives. However, Buggy’s rousing speech put them in the middle of a chase for the One Piece. Buggy wants to claim the One Piece, and his underlings are more than willing to follow their captain. While Crocodile and Mihawk can beat up Buggy, it is too late to stop the movement as the wheels have already been set in motion.
