The open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds has officially ended, leaving fans of the series a little dejected that they have to wait till next year for the full launch. While the PS5 beta test went pretty well, with about as many bugs as you’d expect from a beta, the PC version was pretty rough.

Still, the overall sentiment is that Wilds will certainly top Monster Hunter Worlds, and will be one of the best games of 2025. While most of this is due to the stunning visuals and gameplay, Monster Hunter fans also appreciated the level of detail gone into Wilds. One of the latest little details that fans have pointed out is that NPCs react appropriately to each emote.

That’s An Appropriate Response

If you head over to any Monster Hunter forum, you’ll find that a lot of the posts are autopsies of the beta. Fans have been discussing their favourite monsters, the best weapons, what they liked about the game, and what they’d want to see changed. Among those was a post that pointed out one of the neat little features of the game, that an NPC or Follower, in this case Alma, will respond in a unique manner to whichever emote you perform.

As seen in the video, Alma waves when the Hunter waves, claps and looks up at the fireworks, gets scared at a taunt, cheers at a victory pose, looks closely when the player checks for wind using sand, and even sits when the player sits. The video ended with the Hunter leaving a bomb for Alma, but that’s not important to this story.

Monster Hunter has always paid attention to detail, and it’s something that fans have adored about the series. The biomes in each of the games feels alive and can even be leveraged if you know enough about them. An earlier post even showed how Vigorwasps fill up their sacs with nectar from the plants.

While it’s mostly been praised for Monster Hunter Wilds for now, one of the complaints was that the developers have severely reduced the stop-hit effect from the previous game. This effect caused a weapon to freeze for a frame or two upon landing a big hit, giving a very satisfying feeling. Unfortunately, it seems only a few weapons will include this feature in Wilds, to the disappointment of fans.
