There’s so much weird and wonderful video game merch out there that if you’ve imagined something from your favorite game, and that game is popular enough, it probably exists. Particularly when it comes to Minecraft as at 300 million copies sold and counting, it’s one of the most popular games ever made. So popular that 13 years into its run, its merch ideas have reached the point where its lead character has been turned into furniture.
Minecraft first shared an image of the Minecraft Steve image a month ago. However, it clearly wants to make sure as many of you are sitting on Steve’s lap as possible as not only has it circled back around to what might be Minecraft’s most unique piece of merch to date, but it has photoshopped the chair into various places in the game’s almost infinite open world.
Minecraft has also shared where you can buy the chair and if it hadn’t been for the chair finding its way into my life via the official Minecraft account, I would have assumed this was unofficial merch. The link provided by Minecraft’s socials is to a German website called Porta, and it appears to be the only place the chair is available to buy. Even worse for those who have already started making room for the chair while they read this, Porta doesn’t ship outside of Germany.

If you live in Germany, or you’re close enough to someone who does that would be willing to ship you a chair, then a Steve you can sit and swivel on – it’s a swivel chair, I’m not just being crass – will cost you 350 euros, so a little more than $380. Shipping is an additional 15 euros ($17) if you live in Germany, but the price of getting it sent to the US or elsewhere will depend on the channels you go down in an attempt to get that done. Porta hasn’t listed how much the chair weighs, but it’s 34 inches tall so shipping overseas is going to cost quite a bit.
Despite Minecraft’s age, there is no sign of its popularity slowing down. A native PS5 version of the game launched last month (about time) and against all odds, the Minecraft movie we heard about for the first time years ago will hit cinemas in 2025. The star-studded cast includes Jack Black as Steve. I wonder if Porta will release a special edition chair modeled on how the actor looks as the character to celebrate.
