Metal Gear Solid Delta Missing the 2024 Boat Could Lead to Troubled Waters

Metal Gear Solid Delta Missing the 2024 Boat Could Lead to Troubled Waters

2024 has been a really solid year for video game releases. While it may not have had as many blockbuster hits as 2023, this year has still brought with it acclaimed titles like Balatro, Helldivers 2, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Tekken 8, and many more. And as 2024 draws to a close, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater‘s release would be the cherry on top.

Announced back in May 2023, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the long-awaited remake of the franchise’s third main installment, which acts as a sort of origin story for many of the series’ characters. Though many Metal Gear fans are cautious of the remake following Hideo Kojima’s split with Konami and the resulting critically panned entries, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has recently had its first round of press previews, and they’ve been glowing. It was originally rumored that MGS Delta: Snake Eater would release in 2024, but that’s looking increasingly unlikely. But if Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches in 2025, it might not be smooth sailing.

A 2024 Release for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Seems Very Unlikely

Back in January of this year, PlayStation released a trailer titled “Official Upcoming Games in 2024.” This sizzle reel showed off brief snippets of games like Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, Tekken 8, and Rise of the Ronin. Towards the end of the trailer, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater made a brief appearance, seemingly suggesting that the remake now had a release window of 2024.

Officially, Konami has never confirmed or denied Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater‘s 2024 release window. But with just two months left in 2024, it seems highly unlikely that MGS Delta will be releasing this year, especially as there has been a significant lack of marketing for the game in recent months.

Konami’s recent financial report seems to support this idea of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater being pushed out of its unconfirmed 2024 release window. Originally reported on by Eurogamer, during its bi-annual financial report, Konami officially listed MGS Delta‘s release date as “TBD,” alongside titles like Silent Hill f and Silent Hill Townfall. A 2025 release date seems far more likely for MGS Delta at this point, though that might come with its own fair share of issues.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Will Need to Choose The Right Time to Strike in 2025

2025 is already set to be an incredibly busy year for video game releases, and it’s getting busier by the day. February 2025 is already exceptionally crowded, with highly-anticipated titles like Civilization 7, Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Avowed, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 all releasing within days of one another.

There’s also a horde of huge titles that don’t currently have a concrete release date, but are slated for a 2025 launch. Borderlands 4, Death Stranding 2, Doom: The Dark Age s, Ghost of Yotei, Metroid Prime 4, and, of course, Grand Theft Auto 6 are all set to release at some point in 2025. Though the Metal Gear franchise is popular and there aren’t too many big stealth games planned for release next year, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater would still need to plan its launch date carefully to avoid being overshadowed in 2025.
