How To Make Fire In The Forest
Quick Links
The Forest puts players on a quest for survival as they’re dropped in the middle of a Cannibal Island. With no way out, players must learn to survive and protect themselves against the Cannibals and Mutants while trying to find the whereabouts of the missing plane passengers.
Fire is your best friend in The Forest, serving not only as a source of light but also as a way to cook food and purify water. Since the nights in the game can get extremely dark, you’ll always want to have a fire going in your base to see your surroundings. Without it, you’ll have no way of seeing the enemies that may come crawling in. In The Forest, there are multiple fire-type structures that you can build. Here’s how to build each of them.

How To Make Fire In The Forest
Making fire in The Forest is pretty straightforward. After walking out of the plane wreckage at the beginning of the game, you can access your Survival Guide by pressing B. Here, you can navigate to the Fire tab and choose the structure you want to build.
Once you build a Fire-type structure at your base, you can light it up with your Lighter by pressing E when you’re close enough. To keep the fire burning, you’ll have to use resources like Cash or Leaves.
Currently, there are four Fire-type buildings in The Forest:
Structure Name |
Resources |
---|---|
Basic Fire |
|
Fire Pit |
|
Standing Fire |
|
Bonfire |
|
Here’s how each of the Fire structures work:
Basic Fire
This is a simple, inexpensive fire type that you can build with resources lying around in your surroundings. It allows you to boil polluted water if you’ve got a boiling pot. You can cook meat and stew in it, too.
It can also warm you up. With some Cash and Leaves thrown in, the light it gives out is also good enough to get you through the night. However, its lifespan is pretty low, and you’ll have to, quite literally, burn resources to keep it going.
The Basic Fire can be reignited three times before it breaks.
Fire Pit
The Fire Pit requires more resources than the Basic Fire, but it does everything the Basic Fire does and more. You can boil water and cook food in it, and the light it provides is brighter. It also lasts longer, making it a much more viable option for your base.
Compared to the Bonfire, it’s a lot easier to craft, requiring only Sticks, Rocks, and Leaves, all of which can be found relatively easily by simply exploring one’s surroundings.
Standing Fire
The Standing Fire is a weird one, with it being mostly used as an offensive option rather than as a source of light. It still provides warmth and light, but you can’t cook meals or boil water in it.

On the bright side, if you’ve got some Fire Arrows in your backpack, you can walk toward a Standing Fire to light them up.
The Standing Fire has collisions, so bumping into it won’t damage you.
Bonfire
If your primary requirement is to get light, it doesn’t get better than the Bonfire. It’s the best source of light in The Forest, greatly brightening up your base when night falls.
However, you can’t use it for much else, and it also attracts cannibals and mutants. Since it’s the most expensive of the bunch, it is recommended that players avoid building it unless they want to attract hordes of enemies to their base.
