How Many Party Members Are There In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio adapts the Press Turn battle system, which is notable throughout the Shin Megami Tensei series. The number of Press Turn icons you get is determined by how many party members you currently have alive or active, with others being earned through various methods.

While Metaphor: ReFantazio starts out with only the Protagonist and Strohl, there will be many other party members who join you throughout the game. There is a limit to how many party members are active in combat, making it important to fill out your full party with the best combinations to face the challenges ahead.

In total, there are seven main party members that will be used throughout the game after they are unlocked. There is one more party member, though he is only temporary. In squad combat, you can only have four active party members at a time. These four can be set in the party section of the main menu, though you are able to switch out party members in the middle of combat after you have obtained the fifth party member.

In the tactics menu of combat, you can choose to use a Press Turn icon to switch out one party member with one currently in reserve. You don’t have to switch the party member that is currently acting, giving freedom to who you have on the front line at any time. When you first get a party member, it is important to decide who you have as active, as those in reserve may not get as much XP.

While Gallica is listed in the party menu, she is not able to actively participate in combat nor change her equipment.

Yes, there is XP share for party members in reserve, though it only starts out very weak. Party members in reserve usually only get about half the XP as those in the front lines, with that being determined by who is active when a squad battle has concluded. It is possible to increase the amount of XP a character earns while in reserve by ranking up their follower levels.

As they rank up, there will be multiple ranks that increase the percentage of XP earned while in reserve, with them finally earning the full amount of XP even when in reserve. This does require players to max out all of their party members as followers if they want to have a full and fair XP share across the entire party.
