Dexter: Original Sin – Should Michael C. Hall Make A Cameo?

Dexter: Original Sin - Should Michael C. Hall Make A Cameo?

Key Takeaways

  • Fans may discover how Dexter survived New Blood if Michael C. Hall cameos in Original Sin.
  • To avoid overshadowing the origin story, Hall’s cameo in Original Sin should be brief.
  • Original Sin may include flash forwards with Hall, teasing Dexter’s survival before going into the past.

The wait is nearly over for Dexter: Original Sin, with the prequel series set to air on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, 2024. Michael C. Hall will narrate the series as the ‘inner voice of Dexter’, but there is a chance he could also make an actual cameo in Original Sin, and this would be good news for fans who are anxiously awaiting the sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection.

Fans are desperate to know how Dexter Morgan is actually alive in Resurrection‘s timeline, after his teenage son, Harrison, gunned him down in the snowy woods of Iron Lake in upstate New York. An actor has been cast as the ‘Iron Lake Doctor’ in Original Sin, which has led to speculation that Dexter’s origin story could also explore the current timeline, which surely means Michael C. Hall could appear in Original Sin before taking the lead in Resurrection.

Ever since Michael C. Hall made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2024, to confirm he was set to narrate Original Sin, while also starring in the upcoming sequel series, Resurrection, fans have been wildly speculating as to how Dexter survival would be explained. The wait was expected to drag on until summer 2025, when Resurrection eventually airs, but that might not be the case. Original Sin looks like it might crossover with the sequel series, with Dante Myles being cast as the ‘Iron Lake Doctor.’ There is absolutely no way a doctor from the town where Dexter ends up living in New Blood, would be making an appearance in the iconic location of Miami back in 1991. The only explanation is a flash-forward aspect to the prequel show.

Dexter -TV Series Like Breaking Bad 2

If Original Sin does include flash forward scenes, it is highly likely Michael C. Hall would be appearing in them, especially as he really looked like he needed the assistance of a doctor after being shot in the chest. So, this could provide the audience with a tease at how Dexter Morgan survives before transitioning into the past to tell Dexter’s origin story. It wouldn’t be the first time a prequel series has done this sort of thing, with Better Call Saul taking this approach with Jimmy/Saul’s future timeline under his assumed name of Gene Takovic in the snowy wilderness of Nebraska.

An Appearance By Michael C. Hall In Original Sin Would Be Great But It Needs To Avoid Overshadowing His Origin Story

Fans will be tuning into Dexter: Original Sin to see how Dexter’s origin story plays out, but that doesn’t mean it has to be set solely in the past. Michael C. Hall is involved as an executive producer on the prequel series, while also providing his dulcit tones for the ‘inner voice of Dexter’. It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that Michael C. Hall might also make a physical appearance in the series as well. However, if Hall does actually make an appearance, it should only be a brief cameo to avoid taking the shine away from Patrick Gibson’s performance as the younger version of Dexter. A good way to do this would be to begin Original Sin with a flash forward to the events that take place after the closing moments of New Blood. The ‘Iron Lake Doctor’ could turn up to treat Dexter’s wounds, and the future sequence could end with the serial killer opening his eyes, and then a sharp cut to black. The new Dexter: Original Sin title sequence kicks in and the audience is transported back to Miami in 1991, to explore the origins of Dexter’s dark passenger.

It would provide the audience with a tease of what’s to come in Resurrection, without going overboard and telling too much of the story they intend to focus on in the sequel series. Dexter regaining consciousness could also be intertwined with the start of his narration in Original Sin, and reveal that he is telling the story of his life from the present timeline. Alternatively, maybe the events of Original Sin are Dexter’s life flashing before his eyes while he is clinically dead, before he gets revived in Resurrection.
