Key Takeaways
- Destiny 2’s update fixes issues with Mask of Fealty, weapon perks, and Crucible mercy rules.
- Mercy rule score limits have been increased in Crucible to prevent matches from ending too early.
- For most players, the biggest part of this update is that the perk weighting issue with weapons is now fixed.
Bungie releases update 8.1.0.4 for Destiny 2, addressing issues with the Mask of Fealty, weapon perk weighting, as well as improving the mercy rules inside the Crucible. While not a weekly occurrence, Bungie continually keeps Destiny 2 updated, addressing common issues as well as bigger issues that the community tends to highlight.
As expected, Episode: Revenant brought with it plenty of new weapons and armor, both of the legendary and exotic type. Unfortunately, not all of them arrived in perfect condition as the Destiny 2 Hunter’s Mask of Fealty exotic has been embroiled in controversy. Unfortunately, the exotic’s main perk wasn’t consistently spawning crystals as expected, effectively limiting the spread of Withering Blades as well. Thankfully, this latest Destiny 2 update manages to finally correct that issue, as well as numerous other pressing issues as well.

Mercy rules within Destiny 2 have always been a source of contention for players. Bungie made significant changes to Destiny 2‘s Crucible in Episode: Revenant and now with this update, the studio is tweaking the mercy rules a bit more by increasing the score limits for triggering mercy rules. As Bungie indicated, the mercy rule’s trigger window has been increased, so the score limits for modes like Control, Clash, and others have also been updated to prevent matches from ending too early when there’s a possibility for the other team to mount a comeback.
Obviously, the biggest piece of this update for many fans will likely be with the weapon perk weighting issue finally being resolved. Following the launch of the Vesper’s Host dungeon, players discovered that a highly sought after roll for the VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher wasn’t dropping. After some sleuthing, the community discovered a perk weighting issue in Destiny 2, where certain combinations much harder to earn than others.
Bungie not only confirmed the issue, but as a thank you to the community, they’re making certain god roll weapons available to Destiny 2 players. With the main issue now fixed in this update, Vesper’s Host will be offering double drops for encounter and activity completions from November 9 to December 3. Better yet, players can visit Banshee-44 at the Tower starting on November 19, where the exo will be offering god rolls for weapons like Rose, Indebted Kindness, Hothead (Adept), VS Chill inhibitor, and more.
