BioWare Has Bad News for Mass Effect Fans

BioWare fans shouldn’t expect any major news about the next Mass Effect game come N7 Day. November 7, aka N7 Day, is a holiday of sorts for Mass Effect fans. In years past, BioWare has used the day to reveal new information about Mass Effect games as well as release new merch for the series.

The next Mass Effect game, which is currently without an official title, was first announced on N7 Day in 2020. A month later, Mass Effect fans were treated to a teaser trailer at The Game Awards that confirmed the return of Liara T’Soni and little else about what the project would have in store. Teases for the new Mass Effect have been released the last couple of N7 Days, so it’s understandable that some fans have been anticipating something similar for this year’s event. Unfortunately, BioWare has told fans that they are better off keeping their expectations in check when it comes to N7 Day 2024.

New Mass Effect Game Won’t Include Dragon Age: The Veilguard Feature

Michael Gamble tells players that the next Mass Effect entry won’t include a controversial element from the upcoming title Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

BioWare took to Twitter to say that this year’s N7 Day “will be quieter” because of the recent launch of the studio’s new game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, BioWare did say that fans can look forward to “a little fun” on N7 Day this year, so there will still be something to look forward to, even if it’s nothing particularly substantial.

Don’t Expect Any Big Announcements on N7 Day

It’s disappointing that N7 Day 2024 seemingly won’t have any major announcements for the next Mass Effect game, but the good news is that BioWare is turning its full attention to the project. The studio recently confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard won’t be getting any DLC so that it can focus its efforts on developing the next Mass Effect game. This is great news for franchise fans and means that updates on the new Mass Effect should become much more frequent in the years ahead.

As for when exactly the next Mass Effect game will be available, that’s hard to say. Mass Effect: Andromeda was released all the way back in 2017, with a two-year gap between that and BioWare’s failed live-service game Anthem. Two years later, BioWare dropped Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, and then there was a three-year gap between that and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Considering the five years between original BioWare releases (Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard), it’s not unreasonable to say that the next Mass Effect game may be as far out as 2029, though that iwll largely depend on how much work has already been done on the project.
