Where to Find Red Sage

Where to Find Red Sage

Red Dead Redemption offers plenty of side content and challenges in addition to its enthralling main plot. These side activities include stranger missions, hunting down wild beasts, and even scouting for rare herbs. The survivalist challenges, in particular, task you with collecting unique herbs found in the game’s open world.

The third survivalist challenge requires you to harvest four Red Sage, one of the rarest herbs to find in the game. Locating Red Sage across the sprawling landscape of Red Dead Redemption can be challenging, especially if you don’t know where to look. The following guide lists two of the best early game spots to farm Red Sage, so you can spend less time searching and more time on interesting aspects of the epic adventure.

Where To Find Red Sage In Red Dead Redemption

While you might randomly run into one or two Red Sage while exploring New Austin, if you wish to farm a bunch of these herbs from a single location, consider exploring the northern and southern regions of Rio Bravo. You can also find these herbs near Benedict’s Point, although in smaller quantities.

Red Sage can be identified by its distinct red leaves, but the plant camouflages well with the surrounding grass, making them difficult to spot. However, you can consider purchasing a Survivalist Map to speed up the process, as these maps highlight nearby plants on your mini map for 20 minutes.

In Red Dead Redemption , all plants respawn after a full in-game day, allowing you to repeatedly harvest them to suit your needs.

Survivalist Challenges & Side Quests That Require Red Sage

Survivalist Challenge Rank 3 in Red Dead Redemption

As you progress through the game, you’ll need to continue collecting Red Sage to complete certain side quests and survivalist challenges. In the Undead Nightmare DLC, Red Sage can be combined with Violet Snowdrop to craft phosphorous ammo. Therefore, knowing a reliable place to farm these herbs can come in handy when you accept relevant quests or challenges along the way.

Here’s a breakdown of all quests and challenges that require Red Sage in Red Dead Redemption:

  • Survivalist Challenge Rank 3: Requires four Red Sage.
  • Survivalist Challenge Rank 10: Requires two Red Sage.
  • Flowers For A Lady Stranger Mission: Requires three Red Sage.
  • Deadalus And Son Stranger Mission: Requires ten Red Sage.

If you plan on making some extra money by selling these herbs, consider selling them in Blackwater or Manzanita Post in Tall Trees. Both of these locations will buy these herbs at a higher price.

Finally, there are two achievements in Red Dead Redemption that are tied to collecting Red Sage, one directly and the other indirectly:

  • Frontiersman: Unlock this achievement by completing all four challenges, including Survivalist, Master-Hunter, Sharpshooter, and Treasure Hunter.
  • Redeemed: This achievement is unlocked upon completing 100% of the game.
