Star Wars Outlaws Reveals 3 Areas of Focus for Future Updates
Key Takeaways
- Star Wars Outlaws developers are focusing on improving combat, stealth, and controls for players.
- Refining stealth mechanics is a priority to offer players more choices and improve enemy detection consistency.
- Future updates will enhance character control by improving responsiveness and reliability of game inputs.
The developers behind Star Wars Outlaws have just shared their areas of focus for improving the game in future updates. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment released the first truly open-world Star Wars game back in August, putting players in the role of aspiring scoundrel Kay Vess as she gathers a crew to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the Outer Rim. Star Wars Outlaws was met with mainly positive reviews, but ultimately fell short of Ubisoft’s sales expectations.
This hasn’t stopped Massive Entertainment from refining and improving on Star Wars Outlaws through update patches in the months since its initial launch. After a Day One patch that improved the game’s stability on PC, Star Wars Outlaws was updated to tweak its controversial stealth mechanics to make things easier for players in the game’s opening hours. After that, October 2024 saw a handful of patches that fixed bugs and adjusted other gameplay features for a smoother experience, though players on PS5 reported issues with screen tearing following the most recent one.

Star Wars Outlaws Lays the Groundwork For a Game About a Forgotten Jedi Type
Star Wars Outlaws’ focus on stealth was divisive, but it could inspire the franchise to venture into a fascinating type of Jedi.
Earlier this week, the developers at Massive Entertainment posted a message on Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws webpage reflecting on the game’s launch, thanking players for their support, and revealing what they will be focusing on in future Star Wars Outlaws updates. The recently-appointed Creative Director, Drew Rechner, noted that his team is taking player feedback, both positive and negative, into account when deciding which areas of Star Wars Outlaws to center its efforts around.
Star Wars Outlaws Updates Will Focus on Combat, Stealth and Controls
The first of three areas that Star Wars Outlaws developers are focusing on is combat, aiming to add more depth and reward for Kay’s melee and weapon gameplay. Secondly, the team is continuing its efforts to refine Star Wars Outlaws’ stealth mechanics, both in improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection and giving players more choices for how they want to handle a situation that requires Kay to sneak her way past rivial gangs or Imperial forces. The last of these topics is character control, as Massive aims to improve the reliability and responsiveness of the game’s inputs.
The next major Star Wars Outlaws patch will be Update 1.4, which is set to launch alongside the game’s first story DLC on November 21. Said DLC is titled “Wild Card” and will add a new side quest centered around the fan-favorite scoundrel Lando Calrissian. Star Wars Outlaws is also launching on PC through Steam on November 21, giving even more Star Wars fans a chance to check out Kay’s journey across the seedy underbelly of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
