MTG’s First Marvel Secret Lair Superdrop Goes On Sale Today

Magic: The Gathering‘s first foray into Marvel‘s multiverse begins today as the first Secret Lair Superdrop in what already promises to be a long relationship goes on sale. While Spider-Man will be getting an MTG set of his own in 2025, which means he isn’t part of today’s Superdrop, five of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will officially make their Magic debuts at noon EST today (November 4, 2024).

The first Marvel superheroes to get the MTG treatment via today’s Superdrop will be Iron Man, Captain America, Storm, Wolverine, and Black Panther. A nice mix of MCU Avengers and X-Men, although just to warn any of you expecting the artwork to be reminiscent of what Disney puts on the big screen, it has already been confirmed that this is a Marvel crossover, not an MCU one, so the characters appearing in these cards aren’t the same versions that have appeared in big budget movies.

Each hero’s drop contains either five or six cards that will include a mix of designs that are brand new to MTG as well as reskinned cards replacing whoever was there before with a Marvel hero. You’ll be able to buy all five drops through MTG’s Secret Lair website and they’ll cost either $39.99 per set or $49.99 if you want your set to include a rainbow foil. That means you’ll need to spend just shy of $200 if you want to own them all, and there are added incentives to spend more beyond having the chance to own every single card in today’s Superdrop.

If you do manage to bag yourself one of each hero’s drop, you’ll also get an additional card that will only be included with your Marvel Superdrop haul if you spend $199 or more – perfectly priced as that’s the minimum you’ll need to spend to own all five. MTG’s Arcane Signet as an Earth’s Mightiest Emblem card. The emblem in question is the Avengers A logo, and the image used is of the top of Avengers Tower which, again, although these designs aren’t ripped directly from the MCU, looks a lot like the Tower you’ve seen in the movies.

The other motivator to try and get people to buy more than just one of these Marvel drops is free shipping if you spend $99 or more. Maybe you don’t want all five, but if you have three favorites, or two if you’re getting the foil versions, you can get them shipped for free. One thing’s for certain, if you like the look of any of these drops, you’ll want to be locked into the Secret Lair website at noon EST today. Whether you agree with the pricing or not, all five will likely sell out almost immediately.
