Marvel’s Wolverine Can Pick Up One Piece of Spider-Man 2 Cut Content
Despite Insomniac being plagued by its infamous leaks last year, Marvel’s Wolverine still holds enough secrets to still be an exciting release on the horizon. Marvel’s Wolverine will be the developer’s first venture into a Marvel storyline that doesn’t revolve around Spider-Man, raising many questions about how the beloved mutant will be approached.
While there will likely be some gameplay similarities between Marvel’s Wolverine and the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, there will have to be a very different approach to many of Wolverine’s combat mechanics. As a grounded, close-range fighter, Logan will likely offer a more gritty combat experience than Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ tamer fighting ethics. Despite the differences in techniques, a piece of cut content from Spider-Man 2 could actually feel right at home in Marvel’s Wolverine. Spider-Man 2 cut double-finisher moves from the final product. This feature may have been left on the cutting room floor, but Marvel‘s Wolverine could be the perfect place to recycle it.

Double-Finisher Moves in Marvel’s Wolverine Makes More Sense Than Spider-Man
Embracing the Brutality of Wolverine
The cut dual-finisher moves left out of Spider-Man 2 would have allowed Peter and Miles to take down two enemies at once if players built up a high enough combo meter. Although Insomniac’s Spider-Man games offer a dynamic combo system, dual-finishers have yet to be included in the game, and likely never will be, since DLC isn’t on the way. Despite the initial disappointment of learning about this feature being cut, all hope may not be lost for this concept.
Since Logan is a more visceral fighter with a complex moral compass, Marvel’s Wolverine would make a lot more sense to feature mechanics like dual-finishers. It’s easy to imagine Peter Parker and Miles Morales using their webs and acrobatics to take down enemies, but it’s just as fun picturing Logan going on a finishing spree with his claws. Despite his initial hero status, Wolverine is a brutal character who hasn’t always fought in the most ethical ways. Through this brutality, Logan’s strength is one of his greatest assets, and bringing his fighting combos to the next level is likely one of the best methods of showcasing so.

Spider-Man 2’s Cut Content As a Testing Ground
Although this is pure speculation, it is quite possible that one reason dual-finishers were cut from Spider-Man 2 was because the team at Insomniac could have realized it would be a better fit for Marvel’s Wolverine‘s combat. There were entire animations completed for these finishing moves, so it’s surprising that they were cut when so much work had clearly been done already. Then again, such complex moves could simply have been too challenging to implement smoothly into the game’s combat.

Rumors Suggest An Upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine Reveal
A notable industry insider recently claimed that Insomniac may be getting ready to reveal more about Marvel’s Wolverine. With The Game Awards on the horizon, this would be the most likely possibility to showcase more footage from the project, but only time will tell if this is the case. After the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac has a challenge ahead with making Marvel’s Wolverine just as successful. Both characters are incredibly popular, but it’s been tricky to properly adapt the character of Wolverine into a compelling video game.
Although a release date has yet to be confirmed, theories and rumors suggest 2026 as a possibility.
It’s likely that Logan will go up against plenty of exciting enemies, and when in-game footage is finally revealed, it will hopefully showcase plenty of action-packed moments. Until more is showcased, it’s impossible to say if dual-finishers will be included or not. However, if there is a comic book game that could benefit from this mechanic the most, it’s Marvel’s Wolverine.
