The character creator in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is extremely deep, and actually important to the narrative of the whole game. You can change everything you would expect, from nose shape to tattoo design, but you are also able to change things like your faction background and the lore to be carried over from Inquisition.

However, you might want to change some aspects of your Rook even if you’ve spent an hour or more tweaking every little option. Thankfully, you can do so later in the game, and keep coming back to do so to freshen up your look as you progress through the main story quests.
How To Change Character Appearance
To change Rook’s basic appearance, you need to head to Varric’s room in The Lighthouse, which is up the stairs inside the Lighthouse’s main hall and take the hallway just left of centre.
It’s the first room you’ll head to after the game’s Prologue and you can get back to it at any time.
You’ll spot the Mirror of Transformation at the back of the room. Interacting with it will bring up the full character creator and all its options.
The only aspects you won’t be able to change are Race and Class.
How To Change Outfits
As for how your Rook looks in terms of the outfits they’re wearing, you need to head to their own room in The Lighthouse.
It’s unlocked a little later than Varric’s room, with you getting access to it after a few main story quests. If you don’t have it yet, you soon will.
Head to the hallway just right of centre in The Lighthouse and look for the Wardrobe on the left of the room. There, you’ll be able to change Rook’s outfit into any you’ve found or purchased. You’ll also be able to see there how many of each outfit type you’ve collected.
How To Purchase New Outfits
To actually get new outfits to equip, you have two options. You’ll find them in chests while exploring or completing quests, but the most reliable way to get new outfits is to buy them from merchants throughout Thedas.
If you fast-travel to a location, the faction merchant will be nearby and you can buy appearance gear from them for gold and sometimes a few materials.
Once you’ve done so, the gear will be available to equip back at your wardrobe in The Lighthouse.
How To Make Rook Transgender
This is entirely optional and you can simply choose one of the options to leave the mirror upon interacting with it if you wish.
Another choice you get to make in the character creator is whether Rook is transgender when you unlock Rook’s room in The Lighthouse.
After being introduced to the Wardrobe, Rook will pick up Varric’s Shaving Mirror from the table in the middle of the room. You can then decide whether you want the game to acknowledge Rook as transgender, with there being varying options depending on how Rook is feeling (i.e, whether they’re “getting there”, they “love who they are”, or they “feel good to see the real me”.
Additionally, if you chose non-binary as your gender option for Rook during character creation, you can use Varric’s Shaving Mirror to decide whether you want the game to acknowledge/comment on this also.
You won’t have access to this mirror throughout the game like you do with the other appearance alteration features, so you’ll need to make your final choice once given the option.
